PSU women, UCM men lead after first day of scoring

Bolivar, Mo. – The Central Missouri men and Pittsburg State women lead after the record breaking first day at the MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship.
 
Katie Cassidy claimed the MIAA title in the heptathlon as she used a strong finished in the 200 and 800 to score 5,097 points. Allie Heckmeyer of Missouri Southern finished second and Monica Howard of Emporia State was third to earn All-MIAA honors.
 
In the men’s decathlon Central Missouri Blake Seitz won the championship behind a strong long jump and 100-meter dash finish to score 7,220 points. Jared Page of Pittsburg State was second with his teammate Tanner McNutt earning All-MIAA honors in third.
 
In the first field event of the day Jacob Mahin of Central Missouri claimed the title in the shot put with a 58’ 9.25” performance. Bryan Burns of Misosuri Southern finished second with Alec Garcia of Emporia State coming in third. In the women’s event Jasmine Smith of Pittsburg State won the title with a 47’ 7.75” throw. Her teammate Jena Black was second with Emporia State’s Morgan Gilliland rounding out the top three.
 
Mariah Garcia of Central Oklahoma set a new MIAA meet record in the women’s discus with a toss of 175’ 8” to win the title and break the old record set in 2013 by Larissa Richards of PSU. Desirea Buerge of Missouri Southern finished in second with Jasmine Smith of Pittsburg State coming in third. In the men’s event TJ Dozier of Fort Hays State threw 167’ 7” to earn the MIAA Championship. Nebraska-Kearney’s Jacob Bartling was second with Alex Garcia of Emporia State rounding out the top three.
 
In the women’s long jump Emilyn Dearman of Pittsburg State jumped 20’ 0.50” to claim the MIAA crown. Diana Cauldwell of Lincoln came in second with Jazmin Williams of Emporia State placing third. In the men’s event Sedeekie Edie jumped 25’ 10.75” wind aided which would break an MIAA meet record. Jordyn Manier of Missouri Southern earned second place with Paul Alongo of Washburn coming in third.
 
In the men’s pole vault Cole Phillips of Central Missouri cleared 16’ 10.75” to claim the league title. Xavier Boland of Lindenwood finished second and made the All-MIAA team with Kai Miller of Pittsburg State who finished third. On the women’s side Emily Presley set a new meet record by clearing 14’ 6.25” breaking a record held by UCM’s Brittany Kallenberger. Kallenberger would finished second while Staci Wickersham finished in third for Southwest Baptist.
 
In the first point scoring event on the track Micki Krzesinski of Fort State turned in a 36:54.25 to win the 10,00-meter title. Piper Misse of Pittsburg State came in second with her teammate Christina Metzger coming in third. In the men’s race Vincent Kiprop set a 30:32.67 pace to win the league championship. Jacob Klemz of Washburn finished second with Northwest Missouri’s Brandon Phipps rounding out the top three.
 
Teams will return tomorrow for the final day of the meet with field events scheduled to being at 11 a.m. and things on the track starting at 12 noon from Bolivar, Mo.
