Joplin, Mo. – In another pitchers dual that saw a scoreless tie for six innings Central Oklahoma defeated Missouri Southern by a 2-1 tally.
The Bronchos broke through the tie in the top of the seventh inning as Trae Smith drove in a run with RBI single down the right field line. Anthony Alvarez would then score as part of a delayed steal that made it a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the ninth the Lions answered as Dave Prost doubled to deep left center field to drive home Tyler Sutherland and cut the lead in half.
For the Bronchos Alvarez and Smith each ended up two for three while Alvarez and Jon Kamies each crossed the plate. On the mound Holden Capps went eight innings striking out three on his way to the win and Gibson Russ pitched the ninth to pick up a save.
The Lions will face the winner of Emporia State and Central Missouri at 4 p.m. on May 13 from Warren Turner Field while Central Oklahoma will await their opponent in a 12:30 p.m. match-up.
