Joplin, Mo. – Northwest Missouri plated five in the bottom of the third as they eliminated Southwest Baptist with a 6-4 win the second round of the MIAA Baseball Tournament.
Jovany Urbieta singled through the right side driving in Hunter Hisky and Sean Murley to make it a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. SBU would make it a 3-0 lead as Nelson Muniz doubled to right field bring Hisky home for a second time.
Northwest would rebound by batting around in the bottom half of the third with Ozzie Adams starting things off with an RBI single. James Holler would then drive home Garrett Fort and then Alixon Hererra drove home Adams. NWMSU would take the lead on a single by Kolby Greenslade before Kevin Handzlik drove home an insurance run making it a 5-3 lead.
NWMSU would tack on another run in the bottom of the fifth inning as Jay Hrdlicka doubled home Greenslade. Chance Wolfe would grab back a run for SBU with a fielders choice driving home Cody Massey and cutting it to a 6-4 lead.
Joseph Hietpas won the game going 5.2 innings and striking out four while Nikko Pablo picked up his 11
th save of the season.
Northwest Missouri advances to face the loser of Missouri Western and Lindenwood at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 13 from Warren Turner Field in Joplin, Mo.
