Joplin, Mo. – Lindenwood racked up 14 hits to defeat Missouri Western 6-1 and remain unbeaten in the MIAA Baseball Championship.
The Lions got on the board first in the top of the third inning as Wes Degener singled to drive home Sam Baxter. Kyle Teter hit the first home run of the MIAA Tournament in the top of the fourth scoring Ryan Sosnowski and giving LWU a 3-0 lead.
Drew Quinones made it a 5-0 lead for Lindenwood as he singled through the left side in the top of the seventh to drive home Tyler Muehling. In the top of the eighth inning Paul Sherwood singled to right field and Rayce Singbush scored.
The Griffons got their first run in the bottom of the eighth inning as Bailey Zimmer had a sacrifice fly to score Andrew Curry.
On the mound Andrew Eilers threw a complete game striking out seven and allowing just one run on four hits.
Missouri Western will face Northwest Missouri in a 9 a.m. game on May 13 from Warren Turner Field while Lindenwood will await an opponent to be determined in the 7:30 p.m. game from Joplin, Mo.
