Six home runs in the second round

Oklahoma City, Okla. – The long ball was the theme of the second round of the MIAA Softball Championship from the ASA Hall of Fame Complex in Oklahoma City, Okla. 

#8 Emporia State 11, #4 Missouri Southern 4
Emporia State got the bats out in the second round as they earned an 11-4 victory to eliminate Missouri Southern.
 
The Hornets jumped out in front in the top of the first inning as Hailey Cope singled to center field and a run scored. Sarah Glass then singled to center to drive two more home as Cope and Annelise Rockley scored. Katie Yoakum made it a 4-0 lead as she forced home a run with a sacrifice fly.
 
The Lions answered in the bottom half of the fourth as Angel Badalamenti singled to right to drive home Myranda Stewart Erika Lutgen then singled through the left side to drive home Shelby Friend.
 
Cope would get her second run batted in as she singled up the middle driving home McKenna Davis. The Lions would plate another run in the bottom of the second as Abi Corbett took advantage of an error to score.
 
The Hornets scored in the top of the third as Caitlin VanVleck used an RBI sacrifice bunt to pus the ESU lead to 6-3 before Katy Rae Nordman scored on a throwing error. VanVleck would add to her RBI total as she doubled down the left field line scoring Eryn Stockman and Yoakum.
 
Rackley would then drive home two more runs in the top of the seventh as she doubled down the left field line scoring Davis and VanVleck. MSSU would plate a run in the bottom of the seventh as Ashley Caldarella doubled to drive in Badalamenti.
 
For the Hornets Nordman went three for four while Davis was on base five times scoring three runs while Glass and Rockley drove in two. In the circle Eryn Stockman picked up the win pitching four innings and allowing just two earned runs.
 
Emporia State will take on Pittsburg State at 10 a.m. tomorrow morning in an elimination game.
 
#1 Central Oklahoma 10, #5 Missouri Western 1
Central Oklahoma hit three home runs as they advanced to the winner’s bracket final with a 10-1 win over Missouri Western.
 
The long ball got things started for the Bronchos as Carli Jones hit a three-run home run in the top of the third to put her team on top. It was two more long balls in the top of the fourth as Mo Selman and Morgan Heard each homered to left field.
 
The Bronchos would add five more runs in the top of the seventh starting with a single by Selman that plated Ashleigh Tramel. Lexi Watson would follow that up with a single of her own driving home Selman. Carrie Abrams then singled in to drive home Watson and make it an 8-0 lead. Brooke Zukerman would close out the inning by driving home two runs on a single to left center.
 
Megan Korgie would drive home a run for the Griffons as she singled to left field bringing home Shelby Uhl.
 
For the Bronchos Morgan Heard was two for five with two runs scored while Jones finished with three driven in. In the circle Jayden Chestnut went seven innings striking out nine and allowing just three hits.
 
Central Oklahoma advances to the 3 p.m. game where they will face Northwest Missouri.
 
#6 Northwest Missouri 12, #2 Pittsburg State 2  
Northwest Missouri hit three long balls as they defeated second seeded Pittsburg State to advance to the winners bracket final.
 
Jessica Rawie got the scoring started for the Bearcats as she singled through the middle to score Torri Blythe. NWMSU would then tack another run on in the top of the second as Karli Allen hit a home run to deep center field. Later in the inning Rebecca Maher homered to left field picking up three RBI.
 
The Bearcats would make it a 6-0 lead in the top of the third as they took advantage of a PSU error. The Gorillas would get their first run of the game as Kristen Van Hoosen singled to right field to drive home Nicole Nease.
 
Another long ball would extend the league for the Bearcats as this time Chantel Adams hit one over the left center field wall. The Gorillas would add a run in the bottom of the seventh as Kala Holder scored on a fielder’s choice.
 
Maher went three for five with two runs scored and four runs driven in while Torri Blythe scored three runs. In the circle Taylor Blackford pitched seven innings allowing four hits and just one earned run.
 
Northwest Missouri will take on Central Oklahoma tomorrow in a 3 p.m. game on HOF Stadium/OGE Energy Field.
 
#7 Southwest Baptist 3, #3 Central Missouri 1
Southwest Baptist got three runs in the bottom of the sixth to earn a 3-1 win and eliminated Central Missouri fro the tournament.
 
Aubrey Daniel singled up the middle in the top of the fourth to break the scoreless tie by driving home Carlie Rose. The Bearcats came back with three runs in the bottom of the sixth starting with Yezzania Gonzalez scored on a while pitch. Dana Graves would then plate a run with a single up the middle as Stormy Christerson scored.
 
Lauren Strobel would take advantage of an error to score the final tally of the game.
 
Kacey Ayers was the winning pitcher going seven innings and striking out five while allowing no runs.
 
Southwest Baptist will face off with Missouri Western in a 10 a.m. elimination game tomorrow on HOF Stadium/OGE Energy Field.
