Lincoln, Neb.  – For the fifth straight year Northeastern State and Southwest Baptist will face off for the MIAA Women’s Tennis Tournament Championship. The Bearcats defeated Washburn 5-2 to move on while the RiverHawks earned the 5-1 win over Nebraska-Kearney.
 
#1 Northeastern State 5, #4 Nebraska-Kearney 1
Northeastern State held on to sweep doubles on their way to a 5-1 win over Nebraska-Kearney in the semifinals of the MIAA Women’s Tennis Tournament.
 
Northeastern State got on the board first as Easton Parker and Caitlin McCullough earned an 8-2 win at #2 doubles. At #1 doubles Molly Worden and Val Efimenko had a close 9-8 win as did Karla Tomaic and Betka Gombarova at the #3 slot as the RiverHawks swept through doubles.
 
Caitlin McCullough would then put her team within one point of the clinch as she earned a 6-3, 6-1 win at the #3 singles spot. The Lopers got a point back when Ana Royo pulled out a 6-2, 6-2 win at the #1 singles spot. Val Efimenko would close out the match with a 6-3, 7-5 win in the #2 singles slot.
 
#2 Southwest Baptist 5, #6 Washburn 2
Southwest Baptist swept doubles and then overcame early singles losses in a 5-2 win over Washburn in the semifinals of the MIAA Women’s Tennis Tournament.
 
Southwest Baptist notched their first point in #2 doubles as Klara Vickov and Lucia Diaz earned an 8-6 win. Shortly after that they pushed the lead to 2-0 as Beatrix Federer and Sarah Brown pulled out an 8-6 tally at the #3 slot. It went to extra sets, but Lani Tuemmers and Lara Soares won at #1 doubles by a 9-8 score.
 
In singles Lani Tuemmers would edge her team closer to the title match with a 6-4, 6-2 win at #2 singles. Logan Morrissey grabbed a point back for the Ichabods as she pulled out a 7-5, 6-4 win at #3 singles.
 
Madeline Hill cut the lead in has for Washburn as she earned a 3-6, 6-0, 7-6 win at #1 singles. Klara Vicov would close things out for the Bearcats earning a 6-3, 6-2 win at the #4 singles spot.
 
The RivherHawks and Bearcats will face off tomorrow at 9 a.m. from the Dillon Tennis Center in Lincoln, Neb.
