NSU defeats LWU 5-0, SBU knocks of ESU 5-2

Lincoln, Neb. – The higher seeds prevailed as Northeastern State defeated Lindenwood 5-0 and Southwest Baptist earn a 5-2 win over Emporia State in the opening round of the MIAA Women’s Tennis Tournament.
 
#1 Northeastern State 5, #8 Lindenwood 0
Northeastern State swept through doubles and then got three singles wins to open the MIAA Tournament with a 5-0 win over Lindenwood.
 
The RiverHawks got on the board first as at #1 doubles Val Efimenko and Molly Worden rolled to an 8-1 win. Karla Tomaic and Betka Gombarova would then earn a straight sets victory at the #3 doubles spot. The sweep was on in doubles as at the #2 spot Caitlin McCullough and Easton Parker earned an 8-5 win.
 
Val Efimenko would move them into within one of the clinch as she earned a 6-0, 6-2 at the #2 singles spot. Caitlin McCullough closed things out at the #3 singles spot as she earned a 6-0, 6-0 straight set win.
 
The RiverHawks will face the winner of fourth seed Nebraska-Kearney and fifth seed Northwest Missouri at 6 p.m. on April 19 from the Dillon Tennis Center in Lincoln, Neb.

#2 Southwest Baptist 5, #7 Emporia State 2
Southwest was strong in singles as they earned a 5-2 opening round win over Emporia State in the MIAA Tournament.
 
The Bearcats jumped on top early as at #2 doubles Klara Vickov and Lucia Diaz earned an 8-1 victory. Emporia State would cut into the lead at #3 doubles as Amy Fugit and Tahlia Walsh pulled out an 8-6 victory. SBU would get a point back as at #1 doubles Lani Tuemmers and Lara Soares pulled out an 8-3 win.
 
Southwest Baptist notched the first point in singles as Lucia Diaz earned a 6-4, 6-1 win in the #3 slot. Emporia State would cut the lead back to one as Tahlia Walsh picked up a 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 win at the #2 singles spot.
 
SBU would almost immediately go back up by two as Lara Soares pulled out a 6-2, 6-3 win at the #1 spot. The Bearcats closed out the match at #6 singles as Zorana Jovanovic earned a 6-3, 6-0 victory.
 
The Bearcats will face the winner of third seed Central Oklahoma and sixth seed Washburn at 6 p.m. on April 19 from the Dillon Tennis Center in Lincoln, Neb.
