Kansas City, Mo. – It is championship Sunday next up for the MIAA Men’s Basketball Tournament as top seeded Northwest Missouri faces off with second seed Central Missouri at 1 p.m. from Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo.
NWMSU got to the title with an 80-76 quarterfinal win over Lincoln and a semifinal victory of 67-63 over Missouri Southern. The Bearcats come into the title game averaging 79.9 points per game while opponents only score 62.1 points against them.
UCM advanced to the championship by opening things up with a 59-54 quarterfinal win over Central Oklahoma before earning a 75-57 win over Nebraska-Kearney in the semifinals. The Mules are averaging 73.6 points per game while they allow 65.2 points per game to their opponents.
The Bearcats are led by MIAA Player of the Year Justin Pitts who is averaging 19.8 points and a team best 5.3 rebounds per game. MIAA All-Defensive team member Chris-Ebou Ndow is averaging 13.0 points per game a team best 6.1 rebounds per contest. Zach Schneider who hit a last second game winning three pointer in the semifinals is averaging 10.0 points per game.
The Mules are led by second team All-MIAA selection Spencer Reaves who is averaging 17.1 points per game. Kyle Wolfe enters Sunday averaging 10.8 points per game and DJ Richardson averages 10.4 points per game. MIAA All-Defensive team member Marquiez Lawrence is averaging 10.0 points and a team best 6.6 rebounds per game.
The winner of the game will earn the MIAA’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division II National Tournament.
