                Kansas City, Mo. – The MIAA announced the end of season wrestling awards for the 2016-17 season today as voted on by the league’s coaches.
 
Nebraska-Kearney’s Keith Surber was named the MIAA Wrestler of the Yearafter winning the 2017 national championship at 149 pounds. Surber went 19-2 this season earning three pints, two technical falls and four major decisions as he became an MIAA, regional and national champion.
 
Fort Hays State’s Brandon Ball has been named the MAA Freshman Wrestler of the Year. Ball finished sixth at 141 pounds at the national championship after claiming the regional championship and earning MIAA runner-up.
 
Joshua Ailey of Central Oklahoma was named the MIAA’s Most Dominant Wrestler, an award that is new this season. Ailey claimed the award for averaging 3.41 points this season in the 141 pounds weight class.
 
Chas Thompson of Fort Hays State was named the MIAA Coach of the Year after leading his team to a 12
th place finish at the national tournament.
