Kansas City, Mo (October 21, 2017) – Piper Misse, a sophomore from Overland Park, Kan., finished first among a field of 104 runners to win the individual title at the 2017 MIAA Women’s Cross Country Championship held Saturday at Mules National Golf Course in Warrensburg, Mo.
Misse completed the 6K course in a winning time of 22:19.54, one of seven Pittsburg State runners to finish in the top-20. PSU’s team score of 31 points was first among a field of 12 schools earning them the overall team championship.
On the team side, Fort Hays State finished second with 91 points followed by Southwest Baptist in third with 94 points. Missouri Southern and Nebraska Kearney rounded out the top five.
Individually, the top ten finishers earned All-MIAA Honors. SBU’s Mary Carr finished in second with a time of 22:25.09 followed by Kaitlyn Shoemaker of Missouri Western at 22:25.99. PSU’s Christina Metzger (22:36.51) and Lindsay Roberts of Fort Hays State (22:42.04) finished fourth and five respectively.
Rounding out the top 10 were Ashton Henson, PSU (22:49.95), Ashlee Kuykendall, MSSU (22:51.12), Lauren Roberts, FHSU (23:02.35), Katren Rienbolt, PSU (23:04.09) and Sierra Mortensen, WU (23:05.08). The next 10 finishers (11
th-20
th place) earn honorable mention All-MIAA honors as well.
