Lindenwood wins Men's Team Championship and Washburn's Klemz the Individual Title at Cross Country Championship

Kansas City, Mo (October 21, 2017) Washburn’s Jacob Klemz, a sophomore from Topeka, Kan., led from start to finish against a field of 93 other runners from 11 schools to capture the individual championship at the 2017 MIAA Men’s Cross Country Championship held Saturday at Mules National Golf Course in Warrensburg, Mo.
 
On the team side, Lindenwood scored 65 points with five runners finishing in the top-22 to capture the team championship.  Central Missouri finished second with 71 points followed by Missouri Southern in third with 90 points.  Rounding out the top five were Nebraska Kearney with 97 points and Emporia State with 120 points to finish fourth and fifth respectively.
 
Klemz completed the 8K course in a winning time of 25:20.83.  Individually, the top ten finishers earned All-MIAA Honors. Nickson Kiptoo of Missouri Southern finished second with a time of 25:26.20.  Lindenwood’s Omar Es Salmouny finished third at 25:29.04 and was the top finisher among the Lions team championship effort.  Shadrack Kipngetich of Central Missouri finished fourth at 25:37.51 followed by William Rush of Missouri Southern in fifth at 25:39.33.
 
Rounding out the top 10 were Ian Frazier, UCM (25:42.65), Trevor Wiegert, UNK (25:48.69), Clayton Duchatschek, LW (25:51.14), Brian Newkirk, ESU (25:52.32) and Ronald Ayabei, UCM (25:57.56).  The next 10 finishers (11th-20th place) earn honorable mention All-MIAA honors as well.
