Maryville, Mo. – Missouri Southern won the MIAA men’s outdoor men’s track and field championship with Pittsburg State claiming the women’s title.
On the men’s side MSSU finished 11 points ahead of Pittsburg State who was second with Lincoln finishing in third. On the women’s side Central Missouri finished second with Lincoln earning third place.
Missouri Southern’s Vincent Kiprop earned the high point award on the men’s side, with Lincoln’s Diana Cauldwell, Pittsburg State's Cassie Casswell and Central Missouri's Heavin Warner tieing for the women's high point award.
The first field event of the day was the women’s javelin where Estefania Lopez used a new MIAA meet record throw of 166’ to win the championship. Madison Wolf, her teammate, was second and FHSU made it a sweep as Scout Wiebe finished third. In the men’s event Daniel Hernandez of Missouri Southern threw 213’ 10” to claim first place. Central Missouri’s Chris Swearingin was second and John Blazevic of Pittsburg State finished third.
In the women’s triple jump Diana Cauldwell of Lincoln jumped 40’ 9” to take home first place. Her teammate Jonelle Campbell was second and Amira Jenkins of Pittsburg State was third to earn All-MIAA honors. In the men’s event Kennan Harrison of Missouri Southern jumped 49’ 0.25” to win the MIAA title. Orneldo Thomas of Lincoln finished in second with Jayce Thomas of Missouri Southern coming in third.
In the men’s shot put Garrett Appier of Pittsburg State shattered the old MIAA meet record with a throw of 67” 0.5,” besting Clint Prange’s mark from 2005 by almost five feet. Jacob Mahin of Central Missouri was second and Bo Farrow of Pittsburg State earned third. In the men’s hammer Caniggia Raynor of Central Missouri threw 218’ 3” to claim the MIAA championship. Bo Farrow of Pittsburg State was second with Lindenwood’s Deondra Canaday coming in third.
In the men’s high jump Kevin Schultz of Northwest Missouri won the title with a 6’ 10.75” clearance. Jayce Thomas of Missouri Southern came in second and Kolt Newell of Fort Hays State finished third. In the women’s event Emilee Iverson of Pittsburg State cleared 5’ 10” to automatically qualify to nationals and win the event. Southwest Baptist’s Natalie O’Keefe was second and Morgan Brant of Emporia State finished in third.
In the women’s shot put Cassie Casswell of Pittsburg State threw 49’ 2.50” to win the event. Her teammate Jasmine Smith finished second with Heavin Warner of Central Missouri coming in third.
Things got started on the track with the 4x100 meter relay as Lincoln finished in 40.74 to stand a top the medal stand. Missouri Southern finished in second with Pittsburg State coming in third. In the women’s race Pittsburg State earned the spot a top the podium iwth a 45.42 finish. Northwest Missouri finished seond with Central Missouri coming in third overall.
In the men’s steeplechase Vincent Kiprop turned in a time of 9:17.12 to claim his second MIAA title in as many days. Northwest Missouri’s Wick Cunningham finished second with Andrew Fields of Nebraska-Kearney coming in third. In the women’s race Jana Palmowski of Central Missouri set a new MIAA meet record on 10:35.79 to win the MIAA crown. Morgan Benesch also set a pace better than the previous record to finish second and Emily Schoenfeld of Emporia State was third.
In the men’s 1500 meters Cole Wellnitz of Nebraska-Kearney ran a 3:51.86 to win the MIAA title. Ryan Cox of Northwest Missouri was second with his teammate Tim Grundmayer finishing third. In the women’s race Emily Harris of Missouri Southern finished in 4:34.67 to take the top of the medal stand. Jhevere Hall of Lincoln was second with Central Oklahoma’s Madison Brown finishing in third.
In the men’s 110 meter hurdles Dylan Barnum of Southwest Baptist finished in first with a 14.47 pace. Darran Hunter of Lincoln was second with his teammate Stallone Watson finishing in third. In the women’s 100 meter race Chrisdale McCarthy of Lincoln ran the race in 13.38 to win. Courtney Nelson of Pittsburg State came in second and Lincoln’s Nadia Harriott was third.
In the men’s 400 meter dash Emporia State’s Duke Tibbs finished in 47.55 to earn the title. Jeff Fraley of Missouri Southern was second and Taysean Goodwin of Emporia State came in third for All-MIAA honors. In the women’s race Krissi-Ann Brown of LIncoln turned in a 53.98 to earn the league title. Mary Bergman of Southwest Baptist finished in second with Chloe Wichmann of Northwest Missouri coming in third place.
In the men’s 100 meter dash Roberto Smith of Lincoln finished in 10.40 to stand a top the podium. Jeff Fraley of Missouri Southern was second and DeAngelo Strickling of Lindenwood was third. In the women’s race Kimberly Bailey finished in first setting an 11.81 pace. Nikki Douglas of Central Missouri came in second and Imani Hutchinson of Pittsburg State also earned All-MIAA honors in third.
In the men’s 800 meters Michael Kinuthia of Fort Hays State finished in 1:54.02 to claim the MIAA title. Brett Meyer, his teammate, was second and Sam Kohrs from Missouri Southern finished in third. In the women’s race Jhvere Hall set an MIAA meet record in the prelims, and then ran a 2:11.50 in the finals to win the championship. Kailey Fuchs of Central Missouri was second and Southwest Baptist’s Mary Carr came in third.
In the men’s 400 meter hurdles Lincoln Darran Hunter was first turning in a 52.67 pace. His teammate Winston Edwards finished second and Northwest Missouri’s Seth Shurvington was third. In the women’s race Nikki Douglas of Central Missouri turned in a 59.84 pace to win the title. Courtney Nelson of Pittsburg State was second with Kimona Dawson of Lincoln coming in third.
In the men’s 200 meter dash Jeff Fraley of Missouri Southern finished in 20.95 to claim theMIAA title. Duke Tibbs of Emporia State finished second with Lincoln’s Roger Blake coming in third. In the women’s race Kimberly Bailey was the MIAA Champion turning in a 24.25 pace on the track. Kelsey Lewis of Pittsburg State finished second and Kaley Hauschild of Northwest Missouri finished in third.
Missouri Southern’s Vincent Kiprop won his third MIAA title with a 14:56.38 in the men’s 5,000 meter race. Brayden Clews-Proctor of Northwest Missouri was second and Cody Smith of Southwest Baptist came in third. In the women’s race Shea Bonine of Fort Hays State finished in 17:52.54 to claim first place. Missouri Southern’s Cynthia Torres was second and Micki Krzesinski placed third.
In the final men’s even of the day Emporia State turned in a 3:12.70 to earn the MIAA championship in the 4x400m relay. Central Missouri finished in second with Lincoln placing third. In the women’s relay Central Missouri finished in 3:47.76 to claim the championship with Northwest Missouri finishing second and Emporia State coming in third.
