St. Charles, Mo. – Fourth seeded Missouri Western used 11-hits to earn a 7-3 win over second seeded Emporia State to earn a spot in the MIAA Tournament Championship Game.
Missouri Western got on the board first as David Glaude singled to drive in Landon Mason in the top of the first inning. The Griffons would plate two more on a triple to right center from Alex Huering in the top of the fourth inning.
The Griffons tacked on two more in the top of the fifth as Kody Matthews and Nick Gawley each had RBI singles. They would add another two run inning in the top of the sixth as Orencio Fisher collected an RBI and Landon Mason scored on a wild pitch.
The Hornets cut into the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning as Derek Francis took advantage of two errors to score and Braxon Byfield singled to drive in a run. They got another run in the bottom of the eighth inning as Dalton Wheat was hit by a pitch and came around to score on a balk, wild pitch and ground out by Francis.
For the Griffons Landon Mason went three for five with three runs scored and Fisher was two for three with an RBI and a run scored. For the Hornets Jonny Hodges was two for five on the afternoon.
On the mound Weston Caindec went six innings striking out five and allowing just six hits to pick up the victory.
Missouri Western will turn around and face Central Missouri in the MIAA Tournament’s Championship Game from the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.
