Earn 9-2 win to eliminate Central Oklahoma

St. Charles, Mo. – Third seeded Washburn used 13 hits to eliminated seventh seeded Central Oklahoma 9-2 to stay alive in the MIAA Baseball Tournament.
 
Washburn got on the board in the top of the first taking advantage of an error as Kyle Carnahan scored. They added another run in the top of the first as David Gauntt doubled to left center field driving Carnahan home for the second time.
 
The Ichabods added three in the top of the fourth as two came home on a Riley Krane triple to right center field. Carnahan followed that up with a single to right scoring Krane and making it a 5-0 lead.
 
Central Oklahoma responded with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning starting with a Korey Floyd doubled that scored Isaac Hellbusch. Jake Dyer then singled up the middle later in the inning to bring Floyd home.
 
WU got a run back in the top of the seventh as Tanner Triggs lined out to sacrifice home David Gauntt. They would add a seventh run in the top of the eighth as the Zane Mapes scored taking advantage of a UCO error. Gauntt then added a home run to make it an 8-2 lead in the top of the ninth inning. Mapes then singled later in the inning to drive home Barkley.
 
For the Ichabods Mapes was three for five with two runs scored as were Carnahan and Gauntt with Gauntt and Krane finishing with two RBI each. For the Bronchos Landon Eason was three for four and Korey Floyd finished two for three with a run and a run driven in.
 
On the mound Dan Gabler struck out four to pick up the win and then Greg Mason came on to pitch the final four innings to pick up the save.
 
WU will now turn around an face top seeded Central Missouri in today’s 12:30 game from Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.
