St. Charles, Mo. – Fourth seeded Missouri Western took advantage of five errors by eighth seeded Northwest Missouri in a 12-3 win to eliminate NWMSU from the MIAA Baseball Tournament.
Northwest Missouri struck first in the bottom of the first inning as James Holler used a sacrifice fly to drive home Nick Gotta. In the top of the second Missouri Western would answer and gain the lead as Nick Gawley homered to left center to drive in Kody Matthews.
NWMSU would answer right back in the bottom of the second inning as Jake Lewis hit a solo home runs to left field. MWSU would then answer in the top half of the next inning as Kody Matthews and Nick Gawley took advantage of errors to come home.
The Bearcats would cut the lead back to one as James Holler had his second sacrifice fly of the ballgame. The Griffons would answer in the top half of the next inning David Glaude doubled down the right field line driving home Orencio Fisher. In the top of the fifth Alex Heuring scored on the third Bearcat error of the ballgame.
Gawley picked up his third RBI of the night as he doubled down the right field line to bring home Fisher. Brandon Downs would follow that up with an RBI single through the left side to make it an 8-3 lead in the top of the eighth.
In the top of the ninth inning Fisher doubled to drive home one and Glaude homered to right field driving in three.
For the Griffons Gawley went three for six with three runs scored and three runs driven in while Glaude went two for six with four runs driven in. For the Bearcats Jake Lewis was two for three with one run scored and a run driven in.
Missouri Western will now play second seeded Emporia State tonight from the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.
