Springfield, Mo. – The Southwest Baptist women topped #1 seed Northeastern State 5-2 to claim the MIAA Women’s Tennis Tournament Championship at the Cooper Tennis Central in Springfield, Mo.
 
SBU jumped on top early as Klara Vickov and Zorana Jovanovic earned an 8-0 straight sets victory at #3 doubles. NSU would answer with a point of their own though as Molly Worden and Patricia Husakova won 8-2 at the #1 slot. With a point on the line Maria Josie Zehnder and Lani Tuemmers earned a 9-7 victory at #2 to help SBU take a 2-1 lead into singles.
 
Tuemmers got on the board first in singles scoring a 6-0, 7-5 victory in the #4 slot. Husakova would answer for NSU with a 6-4, 6-2 win in the #1 singles designation. SBU would make it a 4-2 lead as Zehnder earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory at the #2 slot and Lara Soares earned a 7-6 (9-7), 6-3 win to close out the match at #3 singles.
 
Southwest Baptist earns the MIAA’s automatic bid into the NCAA Division II National Tournament while all other teams will find our their fate when the field is announced at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3 at www.ncaa.com.
