Springfield, Mo. – Northwest Missouri upset top seeded Southwest Baptist 5-0 to claim the MIAA Men’s Tennis Championship at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, Mo.
In doubles Sergi Fontcuberta and Alvaro Reiveros of NWMSU built the lead to 1-0 with an 8-3 win at #1 doubles. In the #3 slot it was NWMSU’s Josef Altmann and Mauro Tete earning an 8-3 tally to make it a 2-0 lead. They closed out a sweep of doubles as Romain Boissinot and Aymeric Autones pulled out an 8-6 win at the #2 slot.
In singles Sergi Fontcuberta won 6-1, 6-2 to push the lead to 4-0 before Fin Glowick shut the door at #6 singles winning 6-2, 6-3 to claim the title.
Northwest Missouri earns the MIAA’s automatic bid into the NCAA Division II National Tournament while all other teams will find our their fate when the field is announced at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3 at
