Springfield, Mo. – The top two seeds advanced as they early morning matches are in the books at the MIAA Women’s Tennis Tournament from the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, Mo.
#2 Southwest Baptist 5, #7 Lindenwood 0
Southwest Baptist swept doubles and earned wins in the top to singles spots to earn a 5-0 win the opening round of the MIAA Women’s Tennis Tournament.
At #1 doubles Christian Zentai and Lara Soares earned an 8-0 victory and a #2 doubles Lani Tuemmers and Maria Jose Zehnder pulled out an 8-3 win. At the #3 slot it was Zorana Jovanovic and Klara Vickov came through with a close 8-5 victory.
In singles Zentai was up a set at #1 singles before winning by retirement and Zehnder closed things out with a 6-2, 6-1 tally at the #2 slot.
Southwest Baptist will face the winner of #3 Nebraska-Kearney and #6 Missouri Western with a scheduled 12 p.m. on April 30 from the Cooper Tennis Complex.
#1 Northeastern State 5, #8 Washburn 1
Northeastern State picked up a 5-1 victory Washburn to earn a spot in the semifinals at the MIAA Women’s Tennis Tournament.
At #1 doubles Molly Worden and Patricia Husakova earned a 9-7 win and at the #2 doubles Valeriia Efimenko and Daria Panfernova pulled out an 8-1 victory. At #3 doubles Washburn’s Laura Shkembi and MaKenna Gonzales earned a point with the 8-3 tally.
In #1 singles NSU’s Husakova got things back earning a straight set 6-0, 6-0 victory. In the #2 slot Panfernova earned a 6-4, 6-3 win and at the #3 slot Efimenko closed things out with a 6-1, 6-2 win.
NSU will face the winner of #4 Northwest Missouri and #5 Central Oklahoma at 12 noon tomorrow from the Cooper Tennis Complex.
