Oklahoma City, Okla. – The higher seeds were successful in the opening round of the MIAA Softball Tournament from ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Okla.
#2 Northwest Missouri 10, #7 Fort Hays State 0
Second seeded Northwest Missouri got two three-run home runs as they defeated seventh seeded Fort Hays State 10-0 in five inning in the opening round of the MIAA Softball Tournament.
For the Bearcats Jessica Rawie was two for three with six runs driven in hitting two three-run home runs. Chantel Adams went three for three with two runs scored and two driven in while Alexis Kelsey walked twice, added a hit and scored three times.
In the circle Kendle Schieber threw all five innings striking out two and allowing just two hits.
#4 Pittsburg State 2, #5 Northeastern State 1
Fourth seeded Pittsburg State took advantage of two unearned runs to pick up a 2-1 victory over fifth seed Northeastern State in the first round of the MIAA Softball Tourney.
For the Gorillas Kylie Guthier went two for three while Andi Cumbie and Katy Remy each scored a run. Madison Boyd scored the lone run of the game for the RiverHawks.
In the circle Emmie Robertson allowed just three hits while striking out eight to pick up the win.
#1 Missouri Western 2, #8 Southwest Baptist 1
Top seeded Missouri Western scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to squeak out a 2-1 victory over eighth seeded Southwest Baptist.
Paige Shifflett went two for three and drove in what proved to be the game winning run. Morgan Rathmann and Shelbie Atwell each scored run as and added hits on the day.
Shyanne Saladino went all seven inning striking out three and allowing just one earned run to pick up the victory.
#3 Central Oklahoma 9, #6 Central Missouri 8 (11)
Third seeded Central Oklahoma used a six run fifth to come from behind and earn a 9-8 extra inning victory.
For the Bronchos JoBi Heath was three for four with three runs driven in while Shelby Carel was two for five with two runs driven in on the evening.
In the circle Jessi Walker picked up the win pitching the final 6.2 innings and allowing just two earned runs.
