Oklahoma City, Okla. – Just six teams remain as the first day comes to a close at the MIAA Softball Tournament from ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Okla.
#8 Southwest Baptist 3, #5 Northeastern State 1 (NSU Eliminated)
Eighth seeded Southwest Baptist got two runs in the fifth to upset fifth seeded Northeastern State and advance in the MIAA Softball Tournament.
For the Bearcats Kaley Hansen was two for three and drove in two runs while Rachel Ray also went two for three with two runs scored.
Hunter Middleton pitched allowed five hits to pick up the win and Kacey Ayers came on to pitch the final 1.2 innings to pick up the save.
Southwest Baptist will now face Northwest Missouri in an elimination game at 11 a.m. on field four.
#1 Missouri Western 1, #4 Pittsburg State 0
A walk-off home run was the finisher as top seeded Missouri Western earned a 1-0 victory over fourth seeded Pittsburg State in nine innings.
Taylor Hamilton homered to center on the first at-bat of the bottom of the ninth inning to score and drive in the only run for the Griffons as she finished two for four on the day. For the Gorillas Sierra Hall was two for three in the game.
In the circle Janie Smith scattered five hits over the nine-inning complete game victory.
Missouri Western will face off with Central Oklahoma at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow on the stadium field. Pittsburg State will play Central Missouri in an elimination game tomorrow at 11 a.m. on stadium field.
#3 Central Oklahoma 5, #2 Northwest Missouri 1
Third seeded Central Oklahoma got two in the second and two more in the third as they earned a 5-1 win over second seeded Northwest Missouri to advance in the winner’s bracket.
For the Bronchos JoBi Heath was two for three with two runs scored and an RBI. Carli Jones went one for three on the night, but drove in two runs.
In the circle Abbie Lancaster picked up the win going 4.1 innings and allowing just five hits. Nicole Brady came on to earn the save pitching the final 2.2 innings allowing just two hits.
Central Oklahoma will face Missouri Western tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. on the stadium field. Northwest Missouri will take on Southwest Baptist in an elimination game slated for an 11 a.m. first pitcher on field four.
#6 Central Missouri 1, #7 Fort Hays State 0 (FHSU Eliminated)
Sixth seeded Central Missouri plated a run in the top of the seventh inning to defeat seventh seeded Fort Hays State 1-0 in the MIAA Softball Tournament.
For the Jennies Ali Jo Rogers drove in Katie Giacone for what proved to be the game winning run as both went two for three on the evening. Lauren Mabe was perfect at the plate going three for three in the game.
In the circle Allison Tonyan went all seven inning allowing just six hits to pick up the victory.
Central Missouri will face Pittsburg State tomorrow in an elimination game at 11 a.m. on the stadium field.
