Kansas City, Mo. – Two of the four higher seeds fell as the first round of the MIAA Men’s Basketball Tournament came to a close.
 
#5 Central Oklahoma 94, #12 Central Missouri 74
Fifth seeded Central Oklahoma shot .585 from the field as they defeated 12th seed Central Missouri 94-74 in the opening round of the MIAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.
 
For the Bronchos Jarred Bairstow led the way with 24 points while Josh Holliday scored 21 points on the night. Seth Heckart added 16 points and Jordan London finished with 13 points.
 
For the Mules Brad Woodson had 15 points while Spencer Reaves and D’Marnier Cunningham each had 13 points.
 
UCO advances to Kansas City where they will face fourth seeded Fort Hays State at 8:15 p.m. on March 4 from Municipal Auditorium.
 
#11 Missouri Western 70, #6 Washburn 54
Eleventh seeded Missouri Western held sixth seeded Washburn to just .353 shooting from the field as they earned a 70-54 victory to open the MIAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.
 
For the Griffons Cole Clearman led the way scoring 20 points as Aaron Emmanuel dished out six assists. Miles Wentzien had 14 points as Clearman finished with three steals.
 
For the Ichabods Brady Skeens had a double-double scoring 10 points and pulling down a game high 18 rebounds.
 
MWSU advances to Kansas City where they will face third seeded Missouri Southern at 12 noon on March 4 from Municipal Auditorium.
 
#7 Lincoln 73, #10 Emporia State 71
Seventh seeded Lincoln got a lay-up with just three seconds to play as they defeated tenth seed Emporia State 73-71 in the first round of the MIAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.
 
For the Blue Tigers Anthony Virdure led the way with 19 points and Richie Lewis added 17 points. Jaylon Smith had 15 points and a team best six rebounds and Rod Ollison added 12 points.
 
For the Hornets Kevin Allen finished with a double-double scoring 21 points and pulling down a game high 14 rebounds.
 
LU advances to Kansas City where they will face second seeded Nebraska-Kearney at 2:15 p.m. on March 4 from Municipal Auditorium.
 
#9 Lindenwood 77, #8 Pittsburg State 68
Ninth seeded Lindenwood shot .569 from the field as they knocked off eighth seeded Pittsburg State 77-68 in the first round of the MIAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

For the Lions Cory Arentsen led the way scoring a game high 28 points while Brad Newman dished out six assists and scored 17 points. LJ McIntosh had 16 points and Stanislas Heili had 14 points and pulled down nine boards.
 
For the Gorillas Trey Starks had 27 points and Chris Owens led the team with eight rebounds.
 
LWU advances to Kansas City where they will face top seeded Northwest Missouri at 6 p.m. on March 4 from Municipal Auditorium.
