The MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships are scheduled to get underway this weekend from Pittsburg, Kan.
 
The Meet
The MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held on February 26-28, 2016 at the Robert W. Plaster Center in Pittsburg, Kan. Pittsburg State is the reigning MIAA men’s champion and Central Missouri won last year’s women’s championship. Last year’s high point winner for the men was Jeff Fraley of Missouri Southern and for the women Erika Kinsey of Central Missouri won the award.

Pentathlon - The one day event will get underway for the women on Friday, Feb. 27 at 3 p.m. Northwest Missouri’s Chloe Wichmann has the league’s best score entering the weekend with 3,867 points at the UNK Charlie Foster. Emilyn Dearman of Pittsburg State scored 3,864 at the Boo Rogers Combined Events. Katie Cassidy of Central Missouri will enter the championship third with a 3,768 score at the Happy Holidays Combined.

Heptathlon - The two day event for the men is scheduled to get underway for the men on Feb. 26 at 3:30 p.m. Missouri Southern’s Jayce Thomas enters the weekend with the nation’s top score in the event scoring 5,454 points (54 points ahead of his nearest competitor) at the Boo Rogers Combined Events. Pittsburg State’s Tanner McNutt is the fourth highest scorer in the nation with 5,293 points at the MSSU Lions Invite. Blake Seitz of Central Missouri enters the championship third in the league with 4,885 points at the Mule Relays.

In the Field
Shot Put - The MIAA men’s shot put is scheduled to get underway on February 28th at around 11 a.m. Garrett Appier of Pittsburg State has the best throw in the country at 64’ 1.75” at the Crimson and Gold Invite. Jacob Mahin of Central Missouri has the 11th best throw in the nation at 56’ 8.75” Indoor Gorilla Classic while Pittsburg State’s Bo Farrow is 15th in the country at 56’ 1.75” at the Nebraska Tune-Up.
The women’s shot put will be contested around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 28th. The current leader coming into the weekend is Jena Black of Pittsburg State who has the nation’s third best throw at 51’ 0.75” at the MSSU Lion Invite. Right behind her at the #4 spot in the country is teammate Cassie Casswell who threw 50’ 8.75” at the Nebraska Tune-Up. One spot behind her in fifth in Central Missouri’s Heavin Warner who had a throw of 50’ 1.75” at the UCM Invite as entering the weekend four of the nation’s top ten throws have taken place in the MIAA.

Weight Throw - In the men’s weight throw, which will get underway at 1 p.m. on February 27th, the top distance is the third best distance in the nation with a throw of 70’ 10.5” by Central Missouri’s Caniggia Raynor at the UCM Mule Relays. Deondra Canaday of Lindenwood has the league’s second, and nation’s 15th best, throw at 60’ 9.25” at the Indoor Gorilla Classic. Zac Bendrick of Northwest Missouri enters the weekend with the third best throw of 59’ 3.5” at the SDSU Indoor Classic.
In the women’s weight throw, which is slated for a 3:30 p.m. on February 27th, Central Missouri’s Heavin Warner has a throw of 70’ 8.5” which is second in the nation and automatically qualified for the national meet. Cassie Casswell of Pittsburg State is provisionally qualified for the national meet with the nation’s 10th best mark at 60’ 10.75” at the Indoor Gorilla Classic. Coming into the championship with the third best distance in the league is Lindenwood’s Michelle Kyle who had a throw of 59’ 1.25” at the Missouri Collegiate Challenge.

Pole Vault - The men’s pole vault is scheduled to begin around 1 p.m. on Sunday, February 28th. Central Missouri’s Cole Phillips has automatically qualified for the national meet with a vault of 17’ 6.5” at the UCM Mule Relays, which ranks him third nationally. The second best vault in the league belongs to Xavier Boland of LIndenwood who went 16’ 4” at the Missouri Collegiate Challenge. Missouri Southern’s Morgan Hold used a vault of 16’ 3.25” at the Crimson and Gold Invitational to provisionally qualify for the national meet.
In the women’s pole vault the event in scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 27th. Missouri Southern’s Melanie Bower enters the weekend with a vault of 13’ 1.75” which is fourth in the country and automatically qualified for the national championship. Heather Glenn of Pittsburg State has the nation’s sixth best vault as she cleared 13’ 0.25” at the Crimson and Gold Invitational. One spot behind her on the national performance list is Missouri Southern’s Emily Presley who vaulted 12’ 11.75” at the PSU Invitational.

High Jump - The men’s high jump is schedule to get underway around 11 a.m. on Sunday, February 28th. Missouri Southern’s Jayce Thomas has the ninth best clearance in the country as he jumped 6’ 11” at the UCM Classic which provisionally qualifies him for the national meet. The second best jump belongs to Payton Nelson of Nebraska-Kearney and Kevin Schultz of Northwest Missouri who both cleared 6’ 9” this season.
In the women’s high jump, which will get underway at 1 p.m. on February 27, Emilee Iverson of Pittsburg State cleared 5’ 9.25” at the Pittsburg State Invitational, which is the current best jump in the league. Natalie O’ Keefe has a jump of 5’ 8” at the same meet to enter the weekend second. Coming into the championship third is Emily Everitt of Nebraska-Kearney who cleared 5’ 7.75” at the Prairie Wolf Indoor Invitational.

Triple Jump - The men’s triple jump is scheduled to go off at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 27th. Kennan Harrison of Missouri Southern comes into the weekend with the top jump in the league after going 49’ 1.5” at the Indoor Gorilla Classic. His teammate Jayce Thomas is second jumping 48’ 10.75” at the MSSU Invitational. Coming into the championship third is Lincoln’s Sedeekie Edie who jumped 47’ 10.5” at the same meet.
The women’s triple jump, which is scheduled for 1 p.m. on February 27th, is led by Lincoln’s Diana Cauldwell who has the second best jump in the country at 40’ 6” which came at the Pittsburg State Invitational. Amira Jenkins of Pittsburg State is also in the top 10 at sixth in the nation with a jump of 40’ 0.5” at the same meet. Brittani Reagan of Missouri Southern has the country’s eight best jump at 39’ 7.75” as five people competing in the meet will rank in the nation’s top 15. 

Long Jump - The men’s long jump is scheduled to get underway at 11 a.m. on Sunday, February 28. Entering the weekend Sedeekie Edie has a jump of 24’ 11” at the Missouri Southern Invite which is third in the nation. Louis Rollins of Pittsburg State has the nation’s tenth best jump going 24’ 3.5” at the Indoor Gorilla Classic. Orneldo Thomas of Lincoln has the league’s third best jump at 23’ 8.25” at the Crimson and Gold Invite.
In the women’s long jump, scheduled to begin at the same time as the men’s, Kaylee Morgan of Missouri Southern has a jump of 19’ 2.5” at the UCM Classic which leads the league. Coming into the meet second is Chloe Wichmann of Northwest Missouri who jumped 19’ 1.5” at the UNK Pre-Holiday Classic. Coming in third will be Lincoln’s Diana Cauldwell with a jump of 18’ 11.75” at the Fred Wilt Invitational.

On the Track
5,000m - The finals in the men’s 5000m is scheduled for a 6:10 p.m. start on February 27th. Vincent Kiprop of Missouri Southern has a time of 14:12.57 which is currently sixth in the nation. His teammate Eric Schott has the league’s second fastest time at 14:17.26 at the MSSU Lion Invite. Northwest Missouri’s Nolan Zimmer ran a 14:31 at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invite.
The women’s 5000m is scheduled for start on the track at 6:50  p.m. on February 27th. Hannah DeVries of Pittsburg State will enter the weekend with the fastest time running a 17:26.38 at the Indoor Gorilla Classic. Morgan Benesch of Nebraska-Kearney finished in 17:28.05 at the SDSU Indoor Classic while Fort Hays State’s Micki Krzesinski ran a 17:34.03 at the Husker Invitational.
 
Distance Medley Relay - The men’s distance medley relay is scheduled for an 7:15 p.m. start on Saturday, February 27th. Northwest Missouri has the league’s fastest time at 9:57.22 with Nebraska-Kearney sporting the second fastest time at 9:57.42. Emporia State enters the weekend with the third fastest time at 10;14.57 at the Indoor Gorilla Classic.
The women’s distance medley relay is scheduled for an 7:30 p.m. start on February 27th. Lincoln enters the weekend with the fastest time running 12:08.88 ahead of Pittsburg State who comes in with a 12:30.34 pace. Emporia State has the league’s third fastest time finishing in 12:47.32 at the Jayhawk Classic.

Mile - The men’s mile run is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start on February 28. Cole Wellnitz of Nebraska-Kearney ran a 4:09.55 at the SDSU Indoor Classic for the league’s best time. Northwest Missouri’s Ryan Cox enters the weekend second with a time of 4:13.70 while teammate Joe Anger had a 4:14.51 pace to come into the weekend third.
The women’s mile run is scheduled for a 2:15 p.m. start on February 28. Emily Harris of Missouri Southern has the best time in the league finishing in 4:53.75 at the Pittsburg State Invitational. Her teammate Cynthia Torres has a time of 5:04.65 which she ran at the MSSU Lion Invite. Lisa Fuerherdt ran a 5:05.54 at the Indoor Gorilla Classic to enter the weekend third.

60H - The men’s 60m hurdles final is schedule to start off at 2:35 p.m. on the track on February 28. Stallone Watson of Lincoln has the nation’s ninth fastest time at 7.99 which he ran at the Pittsburg State Invitational. The second fastest time in the league belongs to Pittsburg State’s Justice Burks with a 8.10 at the Pittsburg State Invitational. Darran Hunter of LIncoln had a run of 8.16 at the Missouri Collegiate Challenge which comes in third.
The women’s 60m hurdles final is scheduled for 2:40 p.m. on Sunday, February 28. Ladonna Richards of Lincoln has the nation’s best time running 8.25 at the Missouri Invitational and automatically qualifying for the national meet. Her teammate Chrisdale McCarthy has the nation’s second fastest time finishing in 8.37 at the Pittsburg State Invitational. Courtney Nelson of Pittsburg State has the tenth best time in the country finishing in 8.56 at the Crimson and Gold Invitational.

60m - The men’s 60m final is scheduled to start on the track at 2:45 p.m. on February 28. Roberto Smith of Lincoln has automatically qualified to the national meet and has the sixth best time in the country at 6.74 at the PSU Invitational. His teammate Stephen Rose has the second fastest time finishing in 6.83 at the Crimson and Gold Invite. Emporia State Colin Coleman finished in 6.91 at the the very same meet.
The women’s 60m final is scheduled for a 2:50 p.m. start on the track on February 28. Yanique Ellington of Lincoln ran a 7.58 at the Fred Wilt Invitational which is fastest in the league. Her teammate Kimberly Bailey finished in 7.67 at the MSSU Southern Invite. Coming into the weekend third is Imani Hutchinson of Pittsburg State, Kelsey Lewis also of PSU and Northwest Missouri Kaley Hauschild who all turned in 7.74 races.

400m -The men’s 400m race is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start on February 28. Taysean Goodwin of Emporia State has the nation’s fifth fastest time finishing in 47.67 at the Indoor Gorilla Classic. The second best time in the MIAA belongs to Faedeon Royes with a 48.16 at the PSU Invite. Central Missouri’s Osvaldo Granillo ran a 48.44 at the Indoor Gorilla Classic.
The women’s 400m race is scheduled for a 3:10 p.m. start on Sunday, February 28 Venicha Baker of Lincoln has the 10th best time in the country at 55.24 at the Crimson and Gold Invite. Mary Bergman of Southwest Baptist has the league’s second best time at 55.89 which she ran at the Indoor Gorilla Classic. Willomena Williams of Lincoln finished in 56.04 at the Fred Wilt Invite for the league’s third best time.

600 yard - The men’s 600 yard is slated for a 3:20 p.m. start on Sunday, February 28. Jeromia Riley of Lincoln has the fastest time at 1:10.64 at the Mule Relays. Luke Stenzel of Emporia State finished in 1:11.35 at the Indoor Gorilla Classic and Osvaldo Granillo of Central Missouri finished in 1:12.29 at the UCM Classic.
The women’s 600 yard race is scheduled to fire off at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 28. Jhevere Hall of Lincoln finished in 1:24.04 at the MSSU Invite to enter the weekend with the fastest time. Second fastest is Pittsburg State’s Emilyn Dearman with a 1:24.64 pace and third is Katie Cassidy of Central Missouri who had a 1:25.01 finish.

800m - The men’s 800m run final is scheduled for a 3:40 p.m. on Sunday, February 28. Jeromia Riley of Lincoln has the league’s fastest time finishing in 1:50.91 at the Pittsburg State Invitational. Thomas LaRoche of Emporia State finished in 1:51.72 at the Indoor Gorilla Classic good for second in the league. Cody Wirth of Nebraska-Kearney has the league’s third best time at 1:52.76 at the SDSU Indoor Classic.
The MIAA women’s 800m run is scheduled for 3:45 p.m. on the final day of the conference meet. Jhvere Hall of LIncoln has the nation’s tenth fastest time finishing in 1:10.22 at the Pittsburg State Invitational. Entering the weekend with the second fastest time is Central Missouri’s Jana Palmowski who ran 2:11.93 at the UCM Classic. Her teammate Kailey Fuchs finished in 2:11.93 at the Indoor Gorilla Classic for the third fastest time.

200m - The men’s 200 meters will run off at 3:55 p.m. on the last day of the MIAA Indoor Championships. Emporia State’s Tysean Goodwin enters the weekend with the nation’s tenth fasest time after running 21.47 at the Jayhawk Classic. Collin Coleman, also of ESU, has the league’s second fastest time running 21.62 at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational. The third fastest time belong to Roger Blake of Lincoln who set a 21.63 pace at the Pittsburg State Invitational.
The women’s 200 meter dash is scheduled for a 4 p.m. on Sunday, February 28. Venicha Baker of the Lincoln has the country’s sixth fastest time with a 24.24 finish at the MSSU Southern Invite. Her teammate Yanique Ellington has the nation’s seventh fastest time finishing in 24.33 at the Fred Wilt Invitational. The third fastest time in the league also belongs to a Lincoln runner as Kimberly Bailey finished in 24.64 at the MSSU Southern Invite.

3000m - The men’s 3000m run is scheduled for a 4:10 p.m. start on the final day of the MIAA Indoor Championship. Missouri Southern’s Vincent Kiprop enters the weekend with the league’s fastest time running an 8:20.26 at the Indoor Gorilla Classic. His teammate Eric Schott has the second best time after running 8:20.83 at the MSSU Southern Invite. Wick Cunningham of Northwest Missouri has the third fastest time finishing in 8:28.30 at the Husker Invitational.
The women’s 3000m run is scheduled for a 4:35 p.m. start on Sunday, February 28. The fastest time in the league belongs to Fort hays State’s Micki Krzesinki who finished in 10:09.95 at the Husker Invitational. Emily Harris of Missouri Southern has the second fastest time with a finish of 10:10.65 at the Crimson and Gold Invitational. Morgan Benesch of Nebraska-Kearney  set a pace of 10:10.98 at the Husker Invitational.

4x400 Relay - The men’s 4x400 relay will be the second to last event of the MIAA Indoor Championships scheduled to get underway at 5 p.m. Lincoln has the fifth fastest time in the country running a 3:13.18 at the Pittsburg State Invitational. Pittsburg State comes in with the country’s eighth fastest time finishing in 3:13.79 at the Indoor Gorilla Classic. Emporia State has the league’s third best time finishing in 3:14.16 at the Crimson and Gold Invitational.
The women’s 4x400 relay will be the final event MIAA Indoor Championships scheduled to get underway at 5:15 p.m. Lincoln has the second fastest time in Division II turning in a 3:41.51 at the Fred Wilt Invitational. The fastest time not by a Lincoln relay team belongs to Pittsburg State who finished in 3:46.96 at the Indoor Gorilla Classic. Southwest Baptist has the third fastest time in the league with a 3:48.21 finish at the GVSU Tune-Up.
