Kansas City, Kan. – Washburn earned a walk-off 4-3 victory over Central Missouri in in the first elimination game of the MIAA Baseball Tournament.
Washburn got on the board first as Riley Krane had one of only two hits for Washburn through the first nine innings scoring Cole Gardner in the bottom of the sixth. In the top of the ninth Jackson Schnurbusch tied it up driving in Derek Cornell with a single to left field. UCM would jump on top in the 10
th as Cornell and Dylan Hanson came up with RBI singles.
In the bottom half of the tenth inning Connor Crimmins tied the game with a home run driving in David Gauntt. Payton Soicher then singled down the right field line to drive in Wes Jones and give WU the victory.
On the mound for UCM Tyler House pitched eight innings of one-hit baseball striking out 10 in a no decision. Hank Wellborn earned the win for the Ichabods pitching one full inning of relief.
Washburn will now face the loser of Emporia State and Missouri Southern on May 9 at 11 a.m. from CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kan.
