Overland Park, Kan. – Central Missouri won two straight on Championship Saturday as they claimed their first MIAA Softball Tournament Championship since the 1997 season.
The Jennies earn the league’s automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament while all other teams will await their fate on the NCAA Selection show at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 4 at
www.ncaa.com.
Game 2: Central Missouri 7, Pittsburg State 1
Central Missouri struck early putting up all seven runs in the first three innings as they held on to take game two and claim the title.
UCM’s Jakki Prater got things started hitting a two-run home and scoring Ali Jo Rogers in the first inning. Rogers would then her own two-run homer scoring Makayla Schoonover in the top of the third. Lauren Mabe drove herself in with a home run to right center later in the third inning. Carlie Rose hit her second home run of the day driving in Alex Leonhart to close out the five-run third. McKenzie Rynard hit a home run in the fifth inning to provide the only run for the Gorillas.
In the circle Katie Shockley pitched five innings striking out five to pick up the victory and Jakki Prater tacked on two hitless innings of relief.
Game 1: Central Missouri 6, Pittsburg State 1
After trailing 1-0 early Central Missouri rebounded with four runs in the bottom of the fourth to force a second championship game.
Carlie Rose was responsible for the scoring in the fourth for the Jennies hitting a grand slam that drove in Alex Leonhart, Lauren Mabe and Jakki Prater. Mabe would follow in the sixth inning with a home run of her own before Makayla Schoonover added an RBI single. For the Gorillas at the plate Katy Remy scored via error in the top of the first inning.
In the circle for UCM Jakki Prater threw a complete game allowing just five hits and striking out four.
