Overland Park, Kan. – In the early elimination games on day two Northwest Missouri and Missouri Western moved on in the MIAA Softball Tournament in Overland Park, Kan.
#5 Northwest Missouri 2, #3 Central Oklahoma 1
Fifth seeded Northwest Missouri got two runs in the top of the fourth inning to upset third seeded Central Oklahoma and eliminate them from the tournament.
Chantel Adams went two for three with an RBI double driving in Stephanie Mark and Rebeca Maher after Stephanie Mark had scored on the previous play. In the circle Kendle Schieber allowed just three hits over the complete game victory.
For the Bronchos Brooke Zukerman hit a home run to score the lone run of the game.
NWMSU will now face Missouri Western in another elimination game.
Missouri Western 3, Emporia State 1
Fourth seed Missouri Western got two runs in the top of the ninth inning to earn a victory and eliminate sixth seeded Emporia State.
Morgan Rathmann hit a two run double for the Griffons in the ninth driving in Brooke Schaben and Shelbie Atwell. Kailey Green drove in the earlier run of the game scoring Rathmann. In the circle Janie Smith pitched all nine innings striking out five to earn the victory.
For the Hornets Danielle Sprinkle went one for four and drove in Taylor Zordel with the only ESU run.
MWSU will now face NWMSU in a rematch of the opening round as part of an elimination game.
