Overland Park, Kan. – Pittsburg State and Central Missouri moved into the winners bracket final while ESU, UCO, MWSU and NWMSU will all battle through the other side of the bracket starting tomorrow in the MIAA Softball tournament.
#1 Central Missouri 4, #5 Northwest Missouri 1
Top seeded Central Missouri plated two in the third and two in the fifth on the way to a victory over fifth seeded Northwest Missouri.
For the Jennies at the plate Lindsey Dawson and Jakki Prater each drove in a run while Prater and Ali Jo Rogers each cross the plate. Katie Shockley threw a complete game scattering eight hits and striking out six to win her second game of the tournament.
For the Bearcats Baylee Scarbrough had two hits in three at-bats and drove in Stephanie Mark for the lone NWMSU run.
UCM will play in the winner’s bracket final tomorrow at 3 p.m. while NWMSU will start through the other side of the bracket at 11 a.m.
#4 Missouri Western 8, #8 Fort Hays State 0
Fourth seed Missouri Western used 12 hits to earn a victory over eighth seeded Fort Hays State eliminating them from the tournament.
At the plate for the Griffons Tiffany Gillaspy went four for four driving in two runs and scoring one. Kailey Green homered and drove in two runs while Shelbie Atweel scored a team best two runs.
Missouri Western will advance and play tomorrow at 11 a.m. against Emporia State.
#2 Pittsburg State 2, #6 Emporia State 0
Second seeded Pittsburg State shut out sixth seeded Emporia State to advance to the winner’s bracket final.
Kylie Guthier led the way at the plate for the Gorillas hitting a home run and driving in two in the game. Emmie Robertson allowed just four hits and struck out 11 on the way to her second win of the tournament.
For the Hornets Taylor Zordel went two for three and in the circle Kaitlyn Caston allowed just five hits and struck out six.
Emporia State will face Missouri Western tomorrow at 11 a.m. and Pittsburg State will face off with Central Missouri at 3 p.m.
#3 Central Oklahoma 11, #7 Washburn 6
Third seeded Central Oklahoma erased a four run early deficit to defeat seventh seeded Washburn and eliminated them from the tournament.
For the Bronchos at the plate Brooke Zukerman was one for three with a home run and four runs driven in. Kaylee Brunson scored three runs and Ally Dziadula and Ashleigh Tramel also hit home runs. In the circle Nicole Brady pitched the final 6.2 innings of relief to pick up the victory.
At the plate for the Ichabods Lauren Thimmesch, Jordan Erickson and Haylee Marsteller each hit home runs.
UCO will now face Northwest Missouri at 11 a.m. tomorrow.
