Springfield, Mo. – Southwest Baptist claimed the MIAA Women’s Tennis Championship with a 5-2 victory over Northeastern State at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield.
In doubles Southwest jumped out on top as at #1 doubles Fanni Varga and Christina Zentai pulled out an 8-3 victory. In #2 doubles Lani Tuemmers and Maria Josie Zehnder earned an 8-4 win. IN the #3 doubles Easton Parker and Barbora Jirickova of NSU came out with an 8-3 to make it 2-1 going into singles.
Northeastern State got a win at #4 singles as Valeriia Efimenko earned a 6-3, 7-6 (7-1 tiebreaker). Southwest Baptist got wins at #1, #2 and #3 singles to close out the match and claim the MIAA Tournament Championship.
In the third place match Northwest Missouri defeated Nebraksa-Kearney by a score of 5-3.
SBU earned the MIAA’s automatic bid into the NCAA Division II Tournament will all other MIAA teams will await their fate at 7 p.m. on April 28 on the selection show at ncaa.com
