NSU and SBU earn wins to play in championship

Springfield, Mo. – The top two seeds earned slots in the MIAA Championship match as the MIAA Women’s Tournament rolled on in Springfield, Mo.
 
Northeastern State 5, Nebraska-Kearney 0
Northeastern State swept the doubles to open the match as Patricia Husakova and Kristina Savchenkov earned an 8-1 victory at #1 doubles. In the #2 slot Molly Worden and Valeriia Efimenko earned an 8-3 victory to take the match to 2-0 in favor of NSU. In #3 doubles Barbora Jicrikova and Easton Parker needed a 7-4 tiebreak to defeat Kari Emery and Emma Neil 9-8 and take the doubles.
 
As the match moved to singles Savchenkov got the first win earning a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the #1 slot. Husakova then closed out the match in #2 singles with a 6-0, 6-3 win.
 
Northeastern State will now take on Southwest Baptist in the MIAA Championship match and Nebraska-Kearney will face Northwest Missouri in the third place match, both will be played at 9 a.m. on April 26 from the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, Mo.
 
Southwest Baptist 5, Northwest Missouri 3
Southwest Baptist built a lead early taking #1 doubles 8-1 with Fanni Varga and Christina Zentai. At #2 doubles Josie Zehnder and Lane Tuemmers earned an 8-3 victory to pus the lead to 2-0. Stephanie Mannix and Aniek Kolen would respond for NWMSU taking the third doubles slot by an 8-0 score.
 
Fanni Varga opened up singles at #1 with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Camila Quesada of NWMSU to make it a 3-1 lead. Christian Zentai would then make the lead 4-1 as she defeated her opponent by a 6-3, 6-2 tally. NWMSU would answer as at #4 Aniek Kolen picked up and win and Stephanie Mannix earned a win in the #5 slot. Maria Zehnder closed out the match at #3 singles with a 6-3, 6-3 win.
 
Southwest Baptist will now take on Northeastern State in the MIAA Championship match and Northwest Missouri will face Nebraska-Kearney in the third place match, both will be played at 9 a.m. on April 26 from the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, Mo.
