Springfield, Mo. – The top seeds advanced with victories as the MIAA Women’s Tennis Tournament got underway at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, Mo.
Northeastern State 5, Washburn 0
Northeastern State started out with a doubles sweep as Patricia Husakova and Kristina Savchenkov pulled out an 8-4 victory at the #1 spot. In #2 doubles Molly Worden and Valeriia Efimenko earned the 8-1 victory. The match was pushed to a 3-0 lead as Barbora Jirickova and Easton Parker earned an 8-4 victory at the #3 doubles slot.
In singles Molly Worden defeated Maria Carretero 6-0, 6-0 at #3 singles to make it a 4-0 lead. Barbora Jirickova used a 6-0, 6-0 win at #5 singles to close out the victory for the RiverHawks.
Northeastern State will face the winner of fourth seed Nebraska-Kearney and fifth seed Emporia State at 9 a.m. on April 25 from the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, Mo.
Southwest Baptist 5, Missouri Western 1
Southwest Baptist made their way to the semifinals as they opened with an 8-5 #1 doubles win by Fanni Varga and Christina Zentai. SBU’s Josie Zehnder and Lani Tuemmers pulled out an 8-1 victory at the #2 double spot. Missouri Western would respond in #3 doubles as Denise Chiao and Ceara Boldrige earned an 8-3 win to make it 2-1 heading into singles.
As things moved to singles Fanni Varga won 6-1, 6-1 at #1 singles and Christina Zentai won by the same margin at #2 singles. The match came to a close as at #3 singles Josie Zehnder earned a 6-1, 6-2 win.
Southwest Baptist will now face the winner of third seed Northwest Missouri and sixth seed Central Oklahoma at 9 a.m. on April 25 from the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, Mo.
