Springfield, Mo. – Southwest Baptist and Lindenwood both earned slots in the semifinals as the first day of the MIAA Men’s Tennis Tournament kicked off.
Southwest Baptist 5, Washburn 0
Southwest Baptist came in as the third seed and swept through doubles opening with Kristof Kinal and Sherif Abohabaga earning an 8-3 win at #1 doubles. Torben Semrau and Chris Blodig earned an 8-2 win in #2 doubles while Yannick Doering and Alex Belote picked up the 8-3 victory at the #3 slot.
In single at #4 Torben Semrau of SBU made it a 4-0 advantage with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Trey Horton. The match was then closed out at #6 singles as Alex Belote pulled out the 6-2, 6-3 victory.
Southwest Baptist will now face second seeded Nebraska-Kearney at 12 p.m. from the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, Mo.
Lindenwood 5, Emporia State 4
Fourth seeded Emporia State swept through doubles to open the match with Andrew Davids and Gerard Pont getting things started with an 8-1 win at #1 doubles. In the #2 slot Paddy Cameron and Keenan Smith earned an 8-6 victory to make it a 2-0 advantage. The doubles were closed out at #3 as Payton Hays and Collin Connor earned an 8-3 victory.
Lindenwood came storming back in singles starting at the #1 spot as Filip Bogic earned a 6-2, 6-1 win. In the #2 slot Yoshi Ysa picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win. At #3 Naoufal El Idrissi picked up and win and Johannes Rabenhorst won at #4 and Nicholas Bruenger won at #5 singles. Emporia picked up a point in #6 singles as Payton Hays earned a 6-3, 6-4 win.
Lindenwood will now face top seeded Northwest Missouri at 12 p.m. on April 25 from the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, Mo.
