Lawrence, Kan. – Central Missouri came in with a final round of 297 to win the MIAA Men’s Golf Championship by 27 strokes.
UCM shot an overall 897 on the par 72, 6,829-yard course finishing just 33 over par as a team. Central Missouri also wrapped up the regular season title coming in two points ahead of Central Oklahoma over the four designated events.
The individual side was exciting as Eric Kline of Central Oklahoma birdied on the first playoff hole (10
th) to claim the tournament title. He finished tied with Central Missouri’s Travis Mays who finished even on the final day to force the playoff. The pair was five under par while Cy Moritz of UCM finished seven over par for third place. Logan Gray of UCO was nine from par to finish fourth while Ryan Buerk of Missouri Southern finished in fifth place.
Mays was named the MIAA Golfer of the Year accumulating 46.5 points over the four designated events. Wesley Jackson of Central Oklahoma earned Freshman of the Year honors as the top placing freshman over four events. Central Missouri’s Tim Poe was named the MIAA Coach of the Year leading his team to both the tournament and regular season title.
UCM earns MIAA’s automatic bid and will play May 4-6 at the NCAA Division II Super Regional at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club in Lemont, Ill. All other teams will await announcement of other competing teams in the super regional on Friday, April 24 at 3 p.m. on ncaa.com.
