Knocks off top seeded Northwest Missouri 65-58

Kansas City, Mo. -- Pittsburg State hit six free throws in six tries in the final minute as they held of top seeded Northwest Missouri 65-58 in the first of two semifinal match-ups in the MIAA Men's Basketball Championship.

For the Gorillas Trey Starks led the way scoring 13 points while Josiah Gustafson had 11 points and Connor Kjer finished with 10 points. Javis Flynn also added 11 points to a team high seven rebounds while dishing out four assists.

For the Bearcats Justin Pitts led all scorers with 23 points adding four rebounds and three assists. Conner Crooker added 15 points while Matt Wallace finished with a team best six assists and five steals on the afternoon.

PSU will now play in the MIAA Championship game at 1 p.m. on March 8 from Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City.

Pittsburg State makes their first championship game since falling to Washburn in 2012.
PSU is looking for their first championship game win going 0-3 in prior trips
The top seed in the tournament has failed to make the tournaments final game in six of the last seven tournaments.
