Longtime MIAA rivals face off for first time in the championship game

Kansas City, Mo. – It will be #3 vs. #5 as Missouri Southern takes on Pittsburg State in the MIAA Men’s Basketball Tournament at 1 p.m. on March 8 from Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City.

The Lions are playing in their second straight MIAA title game and average 78.2 points while allowing opponents 72.9 points per game this season. They are led by Taevaunn Prince who is averaging 16.7 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. Lane Barlow is averaging 11.6 points and 3.4 assists while Cameron Cornelius is averaging 11.5 points per contest. Prince is averaging 24.0 points per game during the tournament and Cornelius is averaging 16.5 points per game.
 
The Gorillas will be playing in their first title game since the 2012 championship and they are averaging 70.9 points while allowing 65.8 points per game on the year. They are led by Josiah Gustafson who is averaging 15.7 points and Devon Branch with 14.3 points per game. Trey Starks is averaging 11.7 points and Lamine Dieng leads the team on the glass with 4.5 boards per contest. In the tournament Branch is leading the way averaging 10.3 points and Dakota Jones is averaging 9.7 points and Gustafson 9.3 points per contest.
 
The winner earns the MIAA’s automatic bid into the NCAA Central Regional which is slated for next weekend at a location to be determined.
