Kansas City, Mo. -- The MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships are scheduled for this weekend in Warrensburg, Mo.
The Meet
The MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held on February 27-March 1, 2015 at the Multipurpose Building in Warrensburg, Mo. Pittsburg State is the reigning MIAA men’s champion and Lincoln won last year’s women’s championship. Last year’s high point winner for the men was Jeff Fraley of Missouri Southern and for the women Yanique Ellington of Lincoln won the award.
Pentathlon - The one day event will get underway for the women on Friday, Feb. 27 at 3 p.m. Pittsburg State’s Emilyn Dearman is currently ranked second in the nation with a score of 3,961 at the MSSU Lion Invite which was an automatic qualifier. Erika Kinsey of Central Missouri also has an automatic qualifier and sits fourth in the nation. Her teammate Madison Smith is ranked sixth in the country and third in the league coming into the meet.
Heptathlon - The two day event for the men is scheduled to get underway for the men on Feb. 27 at 4:00 p.m. Dillon Schrodt of Nebraska-Kearney comes into the championship with the nation’s top mark scoring 5,429 points at the Nebraska-Kearney Pre-Holiday Invitational. Also coming into the weekend with an automatic qualifying mark is Central Missouri’s Tyler Chancellor who put up 5,328 points at the Happy Holidays Combined Events. Pasyson Maydew of Emporia State has the league’s third best mark coming into the weekend going for 5,177 points at UNK.
In the Field
Shot Put - The MIAA men’s shot put is scheduled to get underway on February 28th at around 1:45 p.m. Garrett Appier of Pittsburg State has a throw of 57’ 11.25” which is currently the third best mark in the country. His teammate Bo Farrow comes in the weekend with a throw of 55’ 7.5” at the Husker Invitational which is currently 13th in the nation. The league’s third best mark belongs to Deondra Canady of Lindenwood who had a throw of 54’ 7.5” at the Missouri Invitational.
The
women’s shot put will be contested around 10 a.m. on Sunday, March 1. The current leader coming into the weekend is Heavin Warner of Central Missouri who had a provisional qualifying mark of 50’ 1.25” at the Missouri Southern Lion Invite. With the 10th best mark in the nation is Cassie Caswell of Pittsburg State who threw a provisional qualifier of 48’ 9” at the OBU Bison Invitational. Emporia State’s Morgan Gilliland boasts the third best throw in the league with a mark of 46’6” at the Bill Easton Classic.
Weight Throw - In the men’s weight throw, which will get underway at 10 a.m. on March 1st, the top distance is the fifth best distance in the nation with a throw of 67’ 2.75” by Central Missouri’s Caniggia Raynor at the UCM Classic. The second best throw in the league is 60’ 7.25” which belongs to Colby Jurgens of Nebraska-Kearney. Behind Jurgens is Lindenwood’s Deondra Canady who set a mark of 58’ 2.5” at the Missouri Collegiate Challenge.
In the
women’s weight throw, which is slated for a 1:45 p.m. on February 28th, Central Missouri’s Heavin Warner has a throw of 68’ 4.25” which is fourth in the nation and automatically qualified for the national meet. Lindsay Blackwell has the 10th best mark in the nation with a throw of 60’ 4.5” at the Jim Green Invitational that is second in the league. Cassie Casswell of Pittsburg State has a throw of 58’ 7.5” which is currently the third best mark in the MIAA.
Pole Vault - The men’s pole vault is scheduled to begin around 10 a.m. on Sunday, March 1. Central Missouri’s Cole Phillips has automatically qualified for the national meet with a vault of 17’ 1.5” at the Central Missouri Mule Relays. Brady Tien of Fort Hays State has the second best mark in the league and sixth best in the nation going 16’ 6.78” at the Air Force Invitational. Jeff Piepenbrink of Pittsburg State has the league’s third best mark with a vault of 16’ 4.75” at the UCM Invite.
In the
women’s pole vault the event in scheduled to get underway at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, February 28th. Central Missouri’s Brittany Kallenberger has the fifth best mark in the nation at 12’ 10.25” at the MSSU Lion Invite. Melanie Bower of Missouri Southern is eighth in the nation and second in the league with a 12’ 6” mark at the UCM Classic. Erika Guerrero of Central Oklahoma had a vault of 12’ 2.5” for the MIAA’s third best mark.
High Jump - The men’s high jump is schedule to get underway around 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 28th. Emporia State’s Samuel Saidi has the league’s best mark at 6’ 11” which is eighth nationally. Dillon Schrodt of Nebraska-Kearney also has a provisionally qualifying mark of 6’ 10.25” at the CSM Invitational. Kevin Schultz of Northwest Missouri has a jump of 6’7” which is third in the league coming into the weekend.
In the
women’s high jump, which will get underway at 10 a.m. on March 1, Erika Kinsey of Central Missouri has a jump of 6’ 2.75” which is automatically qualified and is the top mark in the country. Emilee Iverson of Pittsburg State has a jump of 5’ 10” which comes in third nationally. Morgan Brant of Emporia State is provisionally qualified and fifth in the nation with a jump of 5’ 8.5” at the UCM Invite.
Triple Jump - The men’s triple jump is scheduled to go off at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, February 28th. Darion Boure of Missouri Southern has the best jump in the league this season of 50’ 3.25” which ranks third in the nation. His teammate Kennan Harrison has a jump of 49’ 2.5” which is 13th in the country. Owen Smith of Lincoln has the third best mark in the league with a jump of 48’ 6.25” at the Fred Wilt Invitational.
The
women’s triple jump, which is scheduled for 1:45 p.m. on February 28th, is led by Erick Kinsey who has jump of 42’ 5.25” which is tops in the country and automatically qualified for the national meet. Kezia Martin of Pittsburg State jumped 40’ 0.75” at the OBU Invitational good for 10th in the nation. Kendra Smith of Lindenwood is third in the league, 12th in the nation with a jump of 39’ 10” at the Missouri Collegiate Challenge.
Long Jump - The men’s long jump is scheduled to get underway at 10 a.m. on Sunday, March 1. Brady Land of Nebraska-Kearney has a jump of 25’ 0.75” which is tops in the nation and automatically qualified for the national championship. Orneldo Thomas of Lincoln jumped 23’ 11.75” which is seventh in the nation. Right behind him is Tanner McNutt of Pittsburg State with a jump of 23’ 11.5” at the MSSU Early Bird Invite.
In the
women’s long jump, scheduled to begin at the same time as the men’s, Erika Kinsey of Central Missouri has an automatic qualifying mark of 20’ 1.75” which is currently fifth in the nation. The league’s second best jump belongs to Brittani Reagan who jumped 18’ 10” at the Missouri Southern Invite. Nickesha Beaumont of LIncoln jumped 18’ 9.25” at the Meyo Invitational to sit in third place in the MIAA coming in the championship meet.
On the Track
5,000m- The women’s 5000m is scheduled for start on the track at 7:00 p.m. on February 28th. Jessica Macy of Pittsburg State ran a 16:58.09 which is a provisional qualifier and ranks her 10th in the nation so far. Kaitlyn Belisle of Missouri Southern has the league’s second best time running the race in 17:21.26 which is the 24th best time nationally. Third best in the league is Central Missouri’s Megan Glamann who finished the race in 17:30.64 at the Grand Valley Big Meet.
The finals in the
men’s 5000m is scheduled for a 7:25 p.m. start on February 28th. Cory Keehn of Fort Hays State finished the race in 14:24.57 at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational which is provisionally qualifed and first in the league. His teamate Jonny Bernasky ran the race in 14:41.44 at the same meet and is second in the league. Also at the meet was Bryan Hill of Nebraska-Kearney who finished in 14:46.87 good for the third best time.
Distance Medley Relay - The
women’s distance medley relay is scheduled for an 8:05 p.m. start on February 28th. Missouri Southern has the nation’s seventh fastest time running an 11:46.51 at the MSSU Lions Invite. Southwest Baptist has the league’s second fastest time and Lincoln comes into the weekend with the MIAA’s third fastest time.
The
men’s distance medley relay is scheduled for an 8:05 p.m. start on Saturday, February 28th. Nebraska-Kearney has the league’s top time with a 10:03.23 pace. Fort Hays State has the second best time and Emporia State has the third best time.
Mile - The
women’s mile run is scheduled for a 12:15 p.m. start on March 1st. Emily Harris of Missouri Southern has the nation’s sixth best time as she ran a 4:50.445 at the Jayhawk Classic. Katherine Sitzes of Southwest Baptist has a time of 4:58.17 which is currently third in the league. She is joined by teammate Elizabeth Luckel who rank a 4:59:01 to come into the championship with the third best time.
The
men’s mile run is scheduled for a 12:30 p.m. start on March 1st. Cole Wellnitz of Nebraska-Kearney ran a 4:09.11 at the Nebraska Tune-Up for the league’s best time. Adam Tredway of Central Misosuri has a provisional qualifier running the race in 4:09.90 at the UCM Classic. Jerod Schonemann of Nebraska-Kearney finished in 4:10.94 for the league’s third best time.
60H - The
women’s 60m hurdles final is scheduled for 12:50 p.m. on Sunday, March 1st. Ladonna Richards of Lincoln has the nation’s best time running 8.42 at the Fred Wilt Invitational. Zoe Sharplin of Central Missouri is currently 10th in the nation after running an 8.63 at the UCM Mule Relays. Juneille Barker of Lincoln has the nation’s 18th best time as she finished in 8.71 at the Missouri Collegiate Challenge.
The
men’s 60m hurdles final is schedule to start off at 12:55 p.m. on the track on March 1st. Andrew Etheridge of Emporia State has the nation’s sixth fastest time running a 7.93 at the Jayhawk Classic. Just behind him both at that meet and in the nation is Pittsburg State’s Andre Sanders who finished with a 7.97 time. His teammate Justice Burks ranks 15th in the nation after finishing in 8.05 at the UCM Invite.
60m - The
women’s 60m final is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start on the track on March 1st. Janae Johnson of Lincoln ran a 7.57 at the Missouri Collegiate Challenge which is currently 10th in the nation. Her teammate Yanique Ellington finished the race in 7.59 at the Meyo Invitational which currently sits at 12th in the country. Lincoln also boasts the league’s third fast time from Keja Christie who finished in 7.71 at the Missouri Collegiate Challenge.
The
men’s 60m final is scheduled to start on the track at 1:05 p.m. on March 1st. Jeff Fraley of Missouri Southern currently sports the nation’s third best time running a 6.71 at the Jayhawk Classic. DeAngelo Strickling has run a 6.77 which is good for seventh in the nation. Pittsburg State’s Bryce Starks has the league’s third best time after he finished in 6.84 at the UCM Invite.
400m - The
women’s 400m race is scheduled for a 1:15 p.m. start on Sunday, March 1st. Alexis Boyd of Northwest Missouri has the league’s current top time as she finished the race in 56.08 at the Nebraska Tune-Up. The second fastest time in the MIAA belongs to Willomena Williams who finished in 56.35 at the Grand Valley State Quad. The third fastest time was 56.76 run by Missouri Southern’s Amber White at the Jayhawk Classic.
The
men’s 400m race is scheduled for a 1:25 start on March 1st. Duke Tibbs of Emporia State has a 48.02 time which currently ranks 10th in the nation and is a provisional qualifier. He is followed in the national rankings by Miquel Barton of LIncoln who ran a 48.16 at the Meyo Invitational. Just one spot behind him is Osvaldo Granillo who finished in 48.18 at the Grand Valley State Big Meet.
600 yard - The
women’s 600 yard is slated for a 1:35 p.m. start on Sunday, March 1st. Alexis Boyd of Northwest Missouri ran 1.:21.14 at the Concordia Indoor. Jhvere Hall of Lincoln finished in 1:22.93 at the Missouri Collegiate Challenge. Emilyn Dearman of Pittsburg State finished in 1:23.95 in Nebraska for the league’s third best time.
The
men’s 600 yard race is scheduled to fire off at 1:45 p.m. on Sunday, March 1st. The 600y is not a national championship event, however Kellin Loch of Central Missouri ran a 1:10.69 at the UCM Invite. Michael Kinuthia of Fort Hays State ran an 1:11.68 at the Concordia Indoor. Third in the league is Emporia State’s Cody Miller who ran a 1:12.09 at the KSU open.
800m - The MIAA
women’s 800m run is scheduled for 1:55 p.m. on the final day of the conference meet. Jhvere Hall of LIncoln has the nation’s fifth fastest time as she finished in 2:10.81 at the Fred Wilt Invitational. Kindra Emberton of Missouri Southern is second in the league and 18th in the country with a 2:12.67 at the Nebraska Tune-Up. The third fastest time belongs to Monique Thompson of Lincoln who finished in 2:12.88 at the Fred Wilt Invite.
The
men’s 800m run final is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 1st. Kellen Loch of Central Missouri has a provisionally qualifying time of 1:49.84 which he ran at the Gran Valley Big Meet and ranks fourth in the nation. Jerod Schoneman of Nebraska-Kearney ran a 1:53.03 at South Dakota State to provisionally qualify. Jordan Smith of Emporia State ran a 1:53.29 at Wichita State which is third in the league.
200m - The
women’s 200 meter dash is scheduled for a 2:10 p.m. on Sunday, March 1st. Yanique Ellington of Lincoln has the league’s fastest time, which is also 13th in the nation, as she ran a 24.51 at the Saluki Fast Start Meet. Janae Johnson of Lincoln ran a 24.81 at the same meet which is 23rd in the nation. Amber White of Missouri Southern has the league third fastest time turning in a 24.93 at the MSSU Lion Invite.
The
men’s 200 meters will run off at 2:10 p.m. on the last day of the MIAA Indoor Championships. Jeff Fraley of Missouri Southern has the nation’s fourth fastest time as he ran a 21.33 at the Missouri Southern Lion Invite. Juwan Cubit is fifth in the country with a 21.36 at the Missouri Collegiate Challenge. Duke Tibbs of Emporia State is third in the league and eighth in the nation at 21.51 which he ran at the Wichita State Herm Wilson Innovational.
3000m - The
women’s 3000m run is scheduled for a 2:25 p.m. start on Sunday, March 1st. Emily Harris of Missouri Southern has the league’s fastest time coming into the weekend running a 9:52.78 at the Nebraska Tune-Up. Jessica Macy of Pittsburg State ran a 9:55.48 at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational. Missouri Southern’s Kaitlyn Belisle has the league’s third fastest time running a 10:02.93 at the Jayhawk Classic.
The
men’s 3000m run is scheduled for a 2:50 p.m. start on the final day of the MIAA Indoor Championship. Fort Hays State’s Cory Keehn ran an 8:15.59 at the Bill Easton Classic which is tops in the league. His teammate Jonny Bernasky finished in 8:24.44 at the Concordia Indoor. Third in the league coming into the championship is Drew Keefer of Northwest Missouri who ran an 8:30.71 at the Concordia Classic.
4x400 Relay - The
women’s 4x400 relay will be the second to last event of the MIAA Indoor Championships scheduled to get underway at 3:15 p.m. Lincoln has the country’s second fastest time as they finished in 3:45.57 at the Grand Valley State Quad. Southwest Baptist ran a 3:51.70 at the Nebraska Tune-Up which is good for second in the league. Central Missouri’s 3:51.71 at the Grand Valley State Big Meet is the third best time in the league entering the weekend.
The
men’s 4x400 relay will close out the MIAA Indoor Championships with a scheduled start time of 5:05 p.m. Central Missouri has the nation’s second fastest time at 3:11.59 which they ran at the Grand Valley Big Meet. Lincoln is 13th in the nation as they ran a 3:14.44 at the Nebraska Tune-Up. Emporia State enters the weekend with the third fastest time and 15th best in the country with a 3:14.49 at the Kansas State Winter Invitational.
