Hays, Kan. – Fourth seeded Fort Hays State scored two goals in the second half and held on for a 2-1 win over fifth seeded Southwest Baptist in the first round of the MIAA Women’s Soccer Tournament.
FHSU struck first in the 60
th minute as Cenayda Guzman put in a header off a Vianei Sanchez corner kick. They would push the lead to 2-0 as Jasmine Beaulieu scored off a free kick from 20 yards out in the 85
th minute.
Southwest Baptist would get their only goal just 14 seconds later as Karla Jamison scored off a pass from Kate Jamison.
In goal Abbie Flax made seven saves while allowing just one goal to pick up the win.
The Tigers will face the winner of Central Missouri and Washburn in a semifinal match-up on Nov. 6 at the highest remaining seed following today's action.
