Kansas City, Mo. -- The MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Meet will be held May 2-4 on the campus of Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Mo.
Decathlon - Entering this week’s championship Payson Maydew of Emporia State has the top mark with a 7,260 at the Emporia State Combined which currently ranks him fourth overall nationally. Central Missouri’s Blake Seitz is currently sporting the second best overall score in the league getting 6,780 points at the ASU Spring Break Multi. Coming in with the third highest score is Northwest Missouri’s Seth Staashelm who scored 6,611 points at the Herschel Neil Decathlon.
Heptathlon - Coming into the MIAA Championships Central Missouri’s Madison Smith has the third best score in the nation putting up 5,099 points at the ASU Spring Break Multi. Her teammate Erin Alewine scored 4,986 points at the ESU Combined. Emily Dearman of Pittsburg State has the third best score putting up a 4,917 at the PSU Invite.
In the Field
Men’s Shot Put - In the men’s shot put Michael Thalken of Nebraska-Kearney has a throw of 58’ 4.5” to lead the pack heading into the weekend. Garrett Appier of Pittsburg State has a throw of 57’ 9.5” at the MSSU Invite while his teammate Bo Farrow tossed it 55’ 1” at the same meet to come in second and third.
Women’s Shot Put - The top performance coming into the championships belongs to Jackie Ziemke of Nebraska-Kearney who has a throw of 49’ 5.75” at the Concordia Outdoor, good for seventh in the nation. The second longest throw belongs to Kylie Cornman of Missouri Southern who threw 49’ 2.5” at the MSSU Invite. Lakiesha McKnight is also in the nation’s top ten witha throw of 47’ 10.5” on the season.
Men’s Discus - Coming into the outdoor meet Bo Farrow of Pittsburg State has the second best throw in the nation this year of 179’ 5” at the Gorilla Invite. Bryan Kertz of Lindenwood has the league’s second best throw of 174’ 11” at the Missouri Relays good for sixth in the nation. Shane Lundquist of Pittsburg State has the third longest throw going for 169’ 5” at the Gorilla Invitational.
Women’s Discus - With the third best throw in the nation Central Missouri’s Brooke Swearingin leads the league with a throw of 163’ 5” at the Invite. Teammate Heavin Warner is second best in the league with a throw of 156’ 3” at the Wildcat Open which ranks her seventh in the nation. Lindsey Blackwell of Lindenwood has the league’s third best throw of 151’ 4” at the Missouri S&T Invite.
Men’s Pole Vault - Coming into the championships Pittsburg State’s Jeff Piepenbrink has the third best mark in the country an automatic qualifier of 16’ 10.75” at the Missouri Southern Invitational. The second best mark comes from Cole Phillips of Central Missouri who had a vault of 16’ 8.75” at the Mule Relays. Missouri Southern’s Brady Melugin has a mark of 16’ 6.75” at the Missouri Southern Invitational for the third best mark in the league this season.
Women’s Pole Vault - The women’s pole vault is currently led by Pittsburg State’s Heather Glenn who had a vault of 12’ 8.25” at the Mule Relays. The second best mark belongs to Central Oklahoma’s Erika Guerrero who had a vault of 12’ 3.5” at the Southwestern Invitational. Brooke Frederick of Nebraska-Kearney has the league’s third best vault with a mark of 12’ 2.75” at the NWU Spring Open.
Men’s High Jump - Samuel Saidi of Emporia State enters the week with the nation’s fifth best mark jumping 7’ 0.25” at the Kansas Relays. Devin Claypool of Central Missouri has the nation’s eighth best mark jumping 6’ 11.5” at the Drake Relays. Briar Ploude of Emporia State had a jump of 6’ 10.75” at the ESU Relays.
Women’s High Jump - On the women’s side Lacey Rhodes of Central Oklahoma has the nation’s third best jump going 5’ 10” at the KT Woodman Classic. Erin Alewine of Central Missouri is eighth in the nation with a jump of 5’ 8” at the Emporia State Combined. She is tied nationally with Missouri Southern’s Whitney Hardy who jumped the same height at the Missouri S&T Invitational.
Men’s Triple Jump - With the fourth best mark in the nation Missouri Southern’s Darion Boure enters the meet with the best MIAA jump of 50’ 8.25” at the ESU Relays. Marquise Cushon of Pittsburg State is sixth in the nation with a jump of 50’ 4.75” at the Gorilla Invitational. Northwest Missouri’s Peyton Mizera has the league’s third best jump going 46’ 11.5” at the Kip Janvrin Open.
Women’s Triple Jump - With the nation’s fifth best jump Antqunita Reed of Pittsburg State enters the weekend with a mark of 41’ 6.5” at the Gorilla Invitational. Daniele Newman of Lincoln jumped 40’ 6.75” at the Missouri S&T Invite and has the league’s second best mark. The league’s third best mark belongs to Brittani Reagan of Missouri Southern who jumped 39’ 10.5” at the Missouri S&T Invite.
Men’s Long Jump - Meelis Siimson of Central Missouri is fifth in the nation with a jump of 24’ 8.5” at the Emporia State Relays. Also in the nation’s top ten is Orneldo Thomas of Lincoln who jumped 24’ 4.5” at the Missouri S&T Invite. The third best mark in the league belongs to Nebraska-Kearney’s Brady Land who jumped 24’ 3” at the NWU Spring Open.
Women’s Long Jump - Pittsburg State’s Antqunita Reed entered the weekend with the league’s fourth best mark after jumping 19’ 11.75” at the Missouri Southern Invitational. The second best jump in the league belongs to Nickiesha Beaumont at 19’ 6.25” at the Missouri S&T Invite. Brittani Reagan of Missouri Southern jumped 19’ 6.25” at the MSSU Invitational.
Men’s Hammer - Michael Thalken of Nebraska-Kearney has the league’s top mark of 191’ 11” at the Concordia Outdoor. Luke Wilson of Pittsburg State had a throw of 184’ 8” at the Mule Relays, second best in the league. Jacob Prindle of Central Missouri is third with a throw of 184’ 8” also at the Mule Relays.
Women’s Hammer - Heavin Warner of Central Missouri has the nation’s best throw at 210’ 2” at the Mules Relays. Lindsey Blackwell of Lindenwood has a throw of 182’ 3” which is second best in the league. Coming into the weekend third is Darien Stancell of Pittsburg state with a throw of 176’ 10” at the Mule Relays.
Men’s Javelin - Emporia State’s Kyle Pfizenmaier has the best throw of the year at 213’ 9” in the Emporia State Relays. Chris Swearingin has the second best throw at 211’ 10” at the Mules Relays. Jordan Morton of Pittsburg State has the league’s third best throw at 210’ 2” at the Emporia State Relays.
Women’s Javelin - Mary Riley of Central Missouri has the nation’s third best throw reaching 153’ 5” at the Emporia State Relays to automatically qualify. Madison Wolf of Fort Hays State is also automatically qualified and ninth in the nation with a throw of 153’ 5” at the ESU Relays. Pittsburg State’s Aimi Orton has the league’s thired best throw at 146’ 6” at the Mule Relays.
On the Track
Men’s 100m- Romel Lewis of Lincoln has the nation’s second best time finishing in 10.22 at the Missouri Relays. Teammate Romone Hill is third in the country with a time of 10.29 also at the Missouri Relays. Juwan Cubit of Lindenwood finished in 10.49 at the Missouri Relays for the league’s third best time.
Women’s 100m - Yaninque Ellington is automatically qualified for nationals with the nations second fastest time at 11.52 at the Missouri Relays. Her teammate Janae Johnson is seven in the country with a time of 11.60 also at the Missouri Relays. Antqunita Reed of Pittsburg State set the third fastest pace running the race in 11.86 at the Missouri Southern Invitational.
Men’s 200m - Lincoln’s Romone Hill has the league’s best time running the race in 21.00 at the Kansas Relays. William Shell of Southwest Baptist has the league’s second best time entering the weekend with a 21.05 at the MSSU Invite. Juwan Cubit of Lindenwood ran it in 21.11 at the Missouri Relays which is the third best time.
Women’s 200m - Lincoln’s Janae Johnson has an automatic qualifying time of 23.42 which she ran at the Kansas Relays to lead the league. Her teammate Yanique Ellington finished the race in 23.86 at the Missouri Relays. Fort Hays State’s Samantha Woodburn comes in third with a time of 24.05 at the Alex Francis Classic.
Men’s 400m - In the single revolution of the track William Shell of Southwest Baptist leads the league with a time of 46.77 at the Southwest Baptist Invitational. Michael Ashley of the Lincoln ran the race in 47.88 at the Kansas Relays. Also from Southwest Baptist Maverick Bowleg ran a 48.08 at the Kansas Relays for the third best time.
Women’s 400m - For the women Emma Shell of Southwest Baptist has the nation’s seventh best time finishing in 54.64 at the Southwest Baptist Invitational. Donna-Lee Hylton of Lincoln is in the nation’s top 15 with a time of 55.17 at the Missouri Relays. Ashton Nibert of Northwest Missouri is just two spots behind her in 16th nationally with a time of 55.28 at the Kip Janvrin Open.
Men’s 800m - Central Missouri’s Kellin Loch has the best time coming into the meet after running a 1:52.00 at the Mule Relays. Logan Garrett of Fort Hays State finished the double trip around the track in 1:52.05 at the Fort Hays State Open. Pittsburg State’s Jordan Peters has the league’s third best time finishing in 1:52.95 at the Mule Relays.
Women’s 800m - Marissa Bongers of Nebraska-Kearney has the nation’s fifth best time after running the race in 2:10.38 at the Concordia Outdoor Invite. Lincoln’s Monique Thompson has the league’s second and nation’s eight fastest time running 2:10.73 at the Big Blue Classic. The third best time belongs to Jhevere Hall of Lincoln who ran a 2:10.93 also at the Big Blue Classic.
Men’s 1500m - Fort Hays State’s Ryan Hopkins enters the weekend with the MIAA’s best time at 3:56.72 at the FHSU Open. Jerod Schoneman of Nebraska-Kearney finished the race in 3:57.74 at the Kansas Relays. The league’s third best time is 3:58.24 run by William Rush of Missouri Southern at the John McDonnel Invitational.
Women’s 1500m - Southwest Baptist’s Elizabeth Luckel ran the current best time in the league at the Mt. SAC Relays finishing at a 4:30.68 pace. Monique Thompson of Lincoln has the second fastest time in the league finishing in 4:32.25 at the Kansas Relays. Third best in the league is her teammate Jhvere Hall who ran a 4:35.20 at the Big Blue Classic.
Men’s 5000m - Eric Schott of Missouri Southern has the fastest time in the league entering the weekend with a 14:23.75 at the Washington Invitational. Derek Lee of Southwest Baptist finished in 14:37.38 at the very same race. Nolan Zimmer of Northwest Missouri finished with a 14:46.06 pace at the Oregon Relays for the league’s third best time.
Women’s 5000m - Jessica Macy of Pittsburg State enters the weekend with the nation’s third best time running a 16:34.14 at the Drake Relays. The league’s second best time comes from Kaitlyn Belisle who ran a 17:17.23 at the Washington University Invitational. Coming into the meet third is Hannah DeVries of Pittsburg State who had a 17:45.63 finish at the Pittsburg State Invitational.
Men’s 10,000m - With the eighth best time in the nation Eric Schott of Missouri Southern enters the weekend with a best time of 29:39.10 achieved at the Mt. SAC Relays. Cory Keehn of Fort Hays State has the league’s second best time running at 30:22.94 at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival. Southwest Baptist’s Cody Smith enters the weekend third after running 30:46.79 at the Kansas Relays.
Women’s 10,000m - Jessica Macy of Pittsburg State has the fourth fastest time in the nation after finishing in 34:47.89 at the Mt. SAC Relays. Kaitilyn Belisle of Missouri Southern, also at the Mt. SAC Relays finished at a 35:48.37 pace. The third best time in the league was run by Megan Glamann of Central Missouri who finished with a 36:32.87 time.
Men’s 110m Hurdles - Dillon Schrodt of Nebraska-Kearney ran a 14.36 at the UNK Loper Invitational which is top’s in the league. Dylan Barnum of Southwest Baptist has the league’s second best time with a 14.40 pace at the MSSU Invite. Stallone Watson of Lincoln ran a 14.40 as well at the Kansas Relays as the two come in tied.
Women’s 100m Hurdles - Ladonna Richards of Lincoln has the league’s fastest time entering the weekend with a 13.44 at the Missouri Relays. Nikki Wetstein of Emporia State paced a 13.84 at the KT Woodman Classic to enter the meet second. Lincoln’s Shakiesha Miller has a time of 13.86 at the Missouri S&T Invite to come in third.
Men’s 400m Hurdles - Romel Lewis of Lincoln has the league’s fastest time finishing in 52.24 at the Kip Janvrin Open. His teammate Winston Edwards ran the race in 53.01 at the Missouri Relays. Coming into the meet third is Pittsburg State’s Marquel Nickens who ran the race in 53.52 at the Mule Relays.
Women’s 400m Hurdles - Lincoln’s Tamara Keane enters the weekend with the nation’s fifth fastest time at 1:00.19 from the Missouri Relays. Her teammate Ladonna Richards has the nation’s 11th fastest time at 1:01.04 also at the Missouri Relays. Central Missouri’s Nikki Douglas has the league’s third fastest time turning in a 1:01.15 at the Gorilla Invitational.
Men’s Steeple Chase - Lindenwood’s Solomon Kipserem ran an 9:26.81 at the Missouri Relays which is currently the league’s fastest time. Colton Wooldridge of Missouri Southern turned in a 9:29.24 at the Kansas Relays for the second best time. Coming into the meet third is Nick Knudson of Nebraska-Kearney who finished in 9:30.34 at the Concordia Outdoor Invitational.
Women’s Steeple Chase - Anne Herbert of Northwest Missouri turned in the nation’s 12th fastest time finishing in 10:52.39 at the Oregon Relays. Kylie Gaughan of Fort hays State finished in 11:31.88 at the Kansas Relays which stands as the MIAA’s second fastest time. With the third fastest time is Morgan Benesch of Nebraska-Kearney who finished in 11:36.15 in those same Kansas Relays.
Men’s 4x100 Relay - Lincoln is currently the sixth fastest relay team in the nation finishing at a pace of 40.24 at the Missouri Relays. Pittsburg State will look to push them boasting a time of 40.65 at the Mule Relays. The third fastest time belongs to Emporia State as all three teams come in at under 41 seconds with ESU running a 40.96 at the Drake Relays.
Women’s 4x100 Relay - Lincoln’s top team has the third fastest time in the nation entering the weekend running a 45.59 at the Drake Relays. The fastest time on the national list not run by a team from Lincoln is 46.80 run by Fort Hays State at their home meet. Emporia State also did well at their home meet finishing in 47.05 at the State Farm Relays.
Men’s 4x400 Relay - Lincoln enters the weekend with the top time in the league as all three of the top three teams competed against each other last week at the Drake Relays. The Blue Tigers paced the MIAA field with a 3:11.25 in the race coming in ahead of Central Missouri who was able to finish in 3:12.02. Emporia State had the third fastest MIAA time in that event setting a 3:14.86 pace.
Women’s 4x400 Relay - The women’s 4x400 will feature the team that has the nation’s current fastest time by nearly three second after Lincoln ran a 3:37.77 at the Drake Relays. The second fastest time in the league entering the weekend belong to Lindenwood who ran a 3:45.99 at the very same meet. Northwest Missouri finished just two seconds behind them at Drake finishing in a 3:47.38 pace.
