Kansas City, Mo. – The top seed fell in the first round for the first time this millennium as round one came to a close in MIAA softball.

#8 Northeastern State 3, #1 Emporia State 2
Northeastern State put up three runs in the second inning and made it stand up as they upset top seeded Emporia State. NSU managed just two hits in the game but capitalized on five Hornets walks.

Alyssa Aguilar and Allyson Pogue each drove in a run as Pogue also scored one. For the Hornets Jacie Stephens had a home run and Kailtyn Caston also drove in a run. Kayce Wooldridge went seven strong scattering seven hits to pick up the win.

#2 Central Oklahoma 3, #7 Lindenwood 0
Central Oklahoma got a stellar pitching performance as they held serve to advance t the second round of the MIAA Tournament. Lindenwood got just three hits and UCO added just five in a well pitched game.

For the Bronchos Ashton Smith provided the spark at the plate hitting a home run and driving in two of the three runs for her team. Hannah Justus added the other run batted in for the squad. Kalynn Schrock through a complete game shutout allowing only three hits and striking out eight.

#4 Fort Hays State 6, #5 Central Missouri 5
Fort Hays State got a walk-off double from Amanda Vaupel as they came from behind to defeat Central Missouri. FHSU got two runs in both the bottom of the sixth and seventh inning to erase a 4-2 UCM lead.

Vaupel finished with three runs batted in on the night going three for four and also scoring two runs. Kellsi Olsen also drove in two runs on the double to tie the game at two. For the Jennies Lindsey Dawson homered and drove in two runs while Jakki Prater added a two run double. In the circle Paxton Duran struck out 13 and held on to earn the victory.

#3 Missouri Western 16, #6 Northwest Missouri 7
Missouri Western racked up 14 hits as they earned a first round victory over Northwest Missouri. Northwest Missouri also added 11 hits in a game that saw plenty of offense.

For The Griffons Tiffany Gillaspy homered going three for five and driving in five runs. Bre Fleshner also homered and scored three runs while Michelle Stevenson also added three runs batted in. Jackie Bishop came on to get the win pitching three innings and striking out two.
