Springfield, Mo. – Top seeds Northwest Missouri and Southwest Baptist advance with wins today at the MIAA Men’s Tennis Championships.

Top seeded Northwest Missouri held serve with a strong doubles finish to earn a spot in the MIAA Men’s Tennis Championship.

Alvaro Riveros and Amery Clews got things going at #2 doubles earning an 8-4 win. On the #3 court Romain Boissinot and Julien Couronne defeated Thilo Schlenker and Marko Kuelers by an 8-6 tally. In a back and fourth #1 doubles match Sergion De Vilchez and Lluis Altimires came out on top with a 9-8 (7-4) victory.

The lead was then pushed to 4-0 as in #2 singles Boissinot earned a 6-4, 6-2 win over Bobby Florence. In #3 singles Alvaro Riveros twice needed the tie break to seal the deal with a 7-6 (6-4), 7-6 (6-3) win.

Southwest Baptist also used a strong doubles performance to earn a 5-1 win over Nebraska-Kearney.

The #1 doubles team of Kristof Kinal and Omar El Kheshen got things going with an 8-5 victory. Then Daniel Cardona and Chris Blodig earned an 8-6 win at #2 doubles. Closing out doubles #3 team Guido Margiotta and Yannick Doering won by an 8-5 tally.

In singles El Kheshen opened up the scoring at #2 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Nebraska-Kearney answered back as Lucas Garces defeated Daniel Cardona 6-4, 6-2 at the #4 spot.

For the second straight season Southwest Baptist and Northwest Missouri will play for the MIAA post-season title scheduled for a 11:00 a.m. first serve on Sunday, April 27 from the Cooper Tennis Complex. Tomorrow’s scheduled third place match will not be played.
