Springfield, Mo. – In the opening round of the MIAA Women's Tennis Championship Southwest Baptist defeated LIndenwood and Northeastern State knocked

Southwest Baptist cruised to a 5-0 victory over Lindenwood to advance to the MIAA Women’s Tennis Tournament semi-finals.
In doubles the #3 team of Andjela Panovski and Paula Carvajaleno did not drop a set on the way to an 8-0 victory. The #1 doubles team of Fanni Varga and Christina Zentai then turned in an 8-1 win. Finally Mehak Singh and Lani Tuemmers earned an 8-4 victory at #3 doubles.
Then in singles Zorana Jovanovic earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at #6 singles and Christiana Zentai closed it out with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at #3 singles.
Southwest Baptist will face the winner of Nebraska-Kearney at Northwest Missouri at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 26 from Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, Mo.
NSU 5, WU 1
Top seeded Northeastern State picked up a 5-1 victory over Washburn to earn a spot in the MIAA Women’s Tennis Tournament semi-finals.
NSU opened the match with wins at #2 doubles as Kristina Savchenkov and Barbora Jirickova earned an 8-2 win as did Maria Lodge and Houda Bellamine at #3 doubles. In #1 doubles Washburn grabbed a point back as Casyn Buchman and Jodie Blackim earned an 8-4 victory.
Moving to singles Barbora Jirickova earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Kirsten Holle at the #5 spot. In #3 singles Valeriia Efimenko earned a 6-0, 6-2 win and at #4 singles Martina Bruzikova pulled out a 6-0, 6-0 victory to seal the match.
Northeastern State will face the winner of Emporia State and Central Oklahoma tomorrow at 9 a.m. from the Cooper Tennis Complex.
