DAY ONE IN THE BOOKS AT MIAA GOLF TOURNAMENT

Central Oklahoma leads the women, Central Missouri leads the men

Lawrence, Kan. – After the opening round the MIAA Men’s and Women’s Golf Tournament Central Oklahoma holds the lead for the women and Central Missouri for the men.

In the women’s tournament UCO was 32 over par as a team holding just a six shot advantage over Northeastern State who finished 38 over par through one round. Individually it was Central Oklahoma’s Taylor Neidy who sat a top the leaderboard shooting a four over par 76 on the opening day.

Baylee Price of Northeastern State and June Tigert of UCO both sit three strokes back after shooting first round 79’s. Sofia Castiello and Arizona Chin of Northeastern State join Julieta Rotzinger of Lindenwood at four shots off the pace after shooting an even 80 in the first round.

Central Missouri on the men’s side shot five-under par as a team leading by eight strokes over Northeastern State who was three over par. Washburn and Lindenwood round out the top four with WU finishing six over and LWU nine-over par.

Individually Cy Moritz of UCM shot a four-under par 68 to pace the leaderboard in the opening round. Washburn’s Alex Green, UCM’s Travis Mays, Southwest Baptist Clayton Moles and Lindenwood’s Jake Smock are all three-strokes back shooting a one-under par 71 on the day.

Ten men’s golfers sit behind the five at either par or one over as the tournament shifts to its second day. Like today tee times are scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. in both tournaments from Alvamar Country Club in Lawrence, Kan.
