Olathe, Kan. – Top seeded Northeastern State came from behind to defeat third seed Lindenwood 2-1 and claim the MIAA Men’s Soccer Tournament Championship.
Lindenwood got the scoring started in the 19
th minute as Andre Hayne scored off a rebound of an Alfredo Paez shot. The Lions would lead going into the break, but Northeastern State would get on the board in the 50
th minute on a penalty kick from Jordan Schmoker. Schmoker would then add his third goal of the tournament as he scored from the top of the box to put his team ahead for good.
In goal for the RiverHawks Jackson Biles picked up his second win allowing just one goal and stopping three shots. In the game Schmoker became the new single season record holder in points with 35 on the year breaking a record held by former teammate Bo White.
Northeastern State will now wait until the NCAA selection show on Nov. 10 at 6:30 p.m. to determine their postseason fate.
