Olathe, Kan. -- It took 79 minutes to decide it, but Lindenwood hoisted the MIAA Centennial Men's Soccer Championship with a 1-0 win over Northeastern State. Lindenwood took the post-season crown after winning the regular season title as well, the first two trophies for the Lions as members of the MIAA.
After 79 minutes that saw just eight shots on goal between the two teams, Hernan Gonzalez fired a shot off a pass from Azeez Razwan past NSU keeper Jordan Ladbrooke for the game winning tally. The defensive battle had seen just six shots total between the two teams in the first 45 minutes. In goal for the Lions MIAA Freshman of the Year Fermin Hughes picked up his ninth shutout of the season.
Lindenwood ends their season 15-2-3 while Northeastern State will wait to see if they received a bid to the NCAA Division II National Tournament.
