MIAA Announces 2009-10 Academic Awards

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Over 1,600 student-athletes have been honored with 2009-10 MIAA academic awards, the conference office announced Friday.

Sixty-six student athletes earned the MIAA Academic Excellence Award, which is given to those student-athletes who maintain a cumulative grade point average of 4.00 and have at least two terms of attendance at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms. Forty-three women and 23 men were honored with this award.

There were 137 winners of the MIAA Scholar-Athlete Award, which is given to those who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.50, have at least two terms of attendance at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms, and, if competing in a championship sport of the MIAA, earn All-MIAA honors. If competing in a sport without an MIAA championship (swimming, women's bowling, men's soccer and wrestling), the student-athlete must either be selected to an All-Region/District team in a team sport, or qualify for the national meet in an individual sport.

The MIAA Academic Honor Roll featured 1,408 student-athletes for 2009-10. To achieve honor roll status, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 and have at least two terms of attendance at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms.
